I have a VTAC sling on my rifle and often after I shoot a string I cinch 'er up so my rifle isn't swinging around as I patch up my targets and do other administrative stuff.

Lately I noticed the edges of the sling strap that the adjustment buckle slide on are getting kinda frizzled. Is this normal?

Yup happen to mine too. I just took a lighter to it, and that's it.:D

Real VTAC, or 5.11 VTAC?

Like others have said, hit those areas with a lighter.

My VTAC MK2 sling started to get a bit fuzzy on the ends. No biggie.

Same here. Mine is getting frayed from some stray velcro on my vest. No big deal:)

It's a Viking Tactics VTAC, not the 5.11. Padded, coyote brown.

Its working fine as it is, the area the sliding buckle moves on is just a bit fuzzy on the edges compared to the rest of the sling. So its not gonna turn to shreds on me, good to hear! Will try the lighter fix now, thanks guys! :D

Just curious, but is there a substantive difference between the 5.11/VTAC sling and the VTAC sling?

The 5.11 offerings have been found with poorer stitching, build quality, and different materials. Not consistently bad, just not consistent. And not unexpected, either.

No, you would have to cut it on something and if you hit something hard enough to cut or tear it you are going to be seriously f'd up. I've been running one since 06 with numerous deployments with no issues. EXCELLENT piece of gear.

Hmmm, almost ended up with a 5.11 version, glad I got the Viking Tactics instead.

b6b, good to hear it's that tough, so mine will probably last me a long time. :)
