Who makes a battle belt / war belt / first line belt that takes ballistic inserts?

I know about the Crye belt. Are there any others?

Blue Force Gear.

Crye is the best in terms of design and level of protection. Yes, it does cost more but if the belt if for work in a high threat environment, it is worth it. I have used mine for a few years now with no issues. The suspenders it comes with are really not required due to the design.

I just compared pricing between the BFG and the Crye, and I was mistaken. The BFG costs more.

I guess any proper protection belt is going to cost a lot. Makes the Crye seem a bit more reasonable.

crye has a new non-armoured belt coming out called the 'low profile belt'. it isn't as tall in the back as the blast belt. it comes with a foam/plastic stiffening insert but will accept a soft armour insert which will also be made available for it. the low profile belt insert is not cross-compatible with the insert blast belt.

MM,

Great review on the belt and plate carrier. BTW, what kind of holster are you using?

Ah, looks to be a 6004. It was partially obscured. I had a similar setup on my blast belt, but the molle ripped. But, I was using one vertical row to hang in on. Using two will probably last longer, but you can see already how the top molle is already bending.

MM, are there any piccies or info on the new Crye belt?

I am looking to get a rig sorted in the near future and was looking either at BFG or a PLB Warrior systems belt from UKtactical. The PLB is a favourite amongst the Brit guys.

it's a 6378 (ALS holster without the rotating hood). yeah, hanging a holster from molle vs. a belt will always put stress on the molle webbing.

Von,

If you are in the UK, I suggest going the the BFG belt. I think it is a better made belt. I work with lots of "brit guys" and have seen lots of UK Tactical kit in use. I have seen a lot of their stuff fall apart, most notably their RICAS clone of the CIRAS. Isn't their stuff made in China?

Their belt looks ok, but the suspenders seem a bit too much, especially if you are wearing body armor over it. Some of the lads here have the belt, and I can't see anything special in the design.

Is this for military use or personal enjoyment? :)

Avoid Warrior. It is airsoft knock-off Chinese crap. I've seen grocery bags with better stitching.

Ok, I can take a subtle hint. :)

I was thinking about grabbing a warrior belt before I move to the USA. I think I shall wait and check out BFG and Crye when I get over.

Thinking of purchasing one and have a question as to hydration bladders. Is anyone attaching hydration bladders on one, how was it done etc.

Great write-up, I have been looking at different belt set ups, but now that I see you can run a drip leg platform with the SOC-C, this just made my decision!

Thanks

Jeff,

You try running it without the suspenders? Since it is similar to the Crye belt, it should work fine. The only use I see for suspenders now is if you want to unbuckle it for some reason. Because blast belts like the Crye and BFG have more surface area, they stay up even if you load it up with kit.

The big reason not to use suspenders is to allow you to "Lazy Susan" it around your waist. Need to get bring the dump pouch to the front to get the Twinkies? Just rotate the belt around.

If you belt gets stuck on something in a vehicle or aircraft, you can dump it quickly. Not so with suspenders under a vest.

I use a 215 ultimate riggers belt instead of the plastic one that comes with it. I prefer the Cobra buckle since it is rock solid. Belts are a good way to lift and move a casualty (while someone else grabs his harness) and I don't trust plastic buckles.

Paul,

Most people run the bladders on the back, not their belt, for many reasons. If you want water on your belt, maybe try the plastic nalgene bottles.

Just to touch on this a little, and maybe slide a little off topic;

I find wearing water on my back helps my vest sit more comfortably. Even though it's extra weight, it helps "Balance" all the weight very nicely.

That's what i was thinking. How are they making the attachment to the BFG suspenders? I have a CamelBak Multicam bladder backpack, I'm looking at buying the BFG rig, just wear them as two separate systems or have you all inner connected them as one?

Hmmmm BFG in Multicam or Coyote????? Damn Coyote is out of stock.

I would never connect a bladder to the suspenders. You want flexibility with your kit. But like I said, I don't use suspenders anymore. Even it I did, I would not attach anything other than the belt to it. It changes the dynamics of how it works and feels.

Copy that, makes sense.

Okay, off to BFG to buy the Multicam belt & suspenders. Any last word b4 I buy? Seems like you can't go wrong with them.

I have not run this set up without the suspenders because sometimes (just standing around / lunch / etc) I'll unbuckle the belt and let it hang like we use to do with the old 782 (duce gear) belt / suspenders. The other reason is during the spring and fall it's often cold in the morning and I'm wearing some sort of jacket and when it warms up in the late afternoon, I shed the jacket. So during certain times of the year, I'll run the belt a little looser to accomidate jackets, etc.

Excellent info ... Thanks

I'll give it a try without the suspenders ... Dozer recently sent me a Aries belt with Cobra buckle that didn't fit him and figured I might want to try it on the SOC-C belt ... I'll let you know how it works out for me.
