View Full Version : What's a Better Deal, S/F X200 or Insight TLR-1 ??

Hello Guy's, I'm in need of a tactical weapons light for usw w/ a SIG P.226 & P.229, & based upon it's price & consumer reviews, I decided upon the latest version of the Insight TLR-1. I've seen them for about $90 or so, postage paid. This morning while web surfing, I came across what appears to be a really decent deal for a Surefire Model X200. The closeout price is $150, plus probably another $10 or so for postage. ( $160 ppd for a Surefire X200 seems like a decent deal to me ? ) SO, HERE'S MY QUESTION; Should I go with the TLR-1 & pocket the extra $70, or spend the difference to end up with a Surefire X200 ?? ( BTW, They also have Surefire M500A's for the CAR-15 / M4 series at $275 + postage. ) Is the X200 that much better than a TLR-1, or are the so similar that it would be foolish to spend the extra money, even though it appears to be an excellent deal ?? ANY comments / input will be deeply appreciated. THANK YOU

I have 6 TLR1s now. I have never had any problems with any of them. They are bright and fairly cheap. I have no experience with Surefire pistol lights...but I would go with the TLR. They lock up extremely tight to your handgun OR picatinny rail.

Both are good, I used to carry a TLR1 on my duty pistol but switched to the X300.

I like the 200 better, for the momentary light you can use this feature on the X300 by pushing with your weak hand index finger when holding with a two hand grip, for me its easier.

Also its fels like the X200 is made better, I also like the light from the X300 more, and it looks better.

Go surefire. You can also buy a quality switch for the SF that will let you run the gun and light one handed.

I say this as a guy who owns two TLR 1s. One had to go back 2x to Streamlight was fast on the fix. The second time they just replaced it with a refurb C-4 upgraded version.

Is the X200 an A model or B model? I use the X200B and I like it quite a bit...more than the X300...but the A model sucks, in my opinion. Between the X200A and the TLR-1 I'd choose the TLR-1. If it's an X200B I'd buy that...and I'd also ask you where you're seeing the closeout. :D

I'm using 200s as training aids on my training guns and 300s on the "real" guns.

If there's a line on 200bs, even used, I'd like to know about it as well.

X200 or 300 with a DG switch (pressure switch)... pretty sweet setup
We have TLR-1's authorized at my agency, and issued to SWAT. Good lights, decent price. Having said that, I still use the Surefire.

id go with the STREAMLIGHT tlr-1 just make sure you get one that serial number starts with c4. they use a newer version of led witch has consistently gotten good reviews at the Candel power forums. they say 125 lumens but most review put it closer to 150-160 range

the tlr is brighter and cheaper... I have several tlr's with a ton of rounds over them with no issues. I considered running a SF but when push came to shove i decided if it aint broke don't fix it.
