recently bought a polish AK-47 underfolder, i got 6, 30rd mags too, planning on atleast 2 to 4 more, been looking online for a chest rig, not too many options, came across the blackhawk commando chest rig(not the molle one) suppose to carry like 8 ak mags, Anyone have any experience with it, how heavy or bulky is it, hows the quality?? is there a better way to carry ak mags??? any help would be much appreciated, thank you

For classes I found that my EI universal had no problems with Circle 10's... The Raven belt pouch is also very nice. Templar was using one at the last Vickers AK class. Its nice because you simply keep rotating and feed from your belt instead of your chest. YMMV

i am military, but this is my personal rifle, i would only use it for home Defense and range work, been deployed twice so far so its very good to know how to be functional with Ak type weapons for future purposes, probably would take a AK operator course soon at midsouth, not sure when, i would never carry 8 AK mags, way too heavy, i am 6' and weigh 215 pounds in very good shape but not big into extra bulk and useless weight, so probably 4 to 6 mags max for my AK, and maybe room for 2 glock 19 mags and a utility pouch, but not essential cause i also have a firstline belt, but it would be a plus

The BH! rig is stupid bulky.
I deployed with one back when we still thought BH! made good stuff and we could go with what we had.
As soon as I could I launched that thing like a sack of someone else's filthy bananna hammocks.
If I was carrying an AK I would take a hard look at dedicated pouches from a quality manunfacturer, preferably holding 1 magazine per pouch since AK mags tend to hang up on each other if doubled up.

the thing is not many companies offer functional or realistic AK chest rigs, atleast in my search but i maybe wrong

I bought an Eagle Triple AK Pouch, lightly used, for $20.00. A pic from Tactical Triad's site:

This MOLLE pouch might be described as bulky. Nevertheless, it has an elastic divider to hold a single mag tight against the outer wall leaving more room for the second to deal with the issue F2S described. I have no AK. It also holds PMAG's with Ranger Plates quite nicely.

It was such a nice piece of gear I could not pass it by.:o

I don't have experience with AK mags but there are some options listed in the ammo pouches spreadsheet I put together: http://pouchcentral.blogspot.com/2009/12/modular-and-belt-pouch-comparison.html

How about a MOLLE base and the addition of HSGI "Taco" pouches?

+1 on the HSGI Taco pouches, im running 3 of them on a Paraclete rig and have yet to find a better solution for AK mags. The tab on the back of the magazines doesn't get caught during extraction and the pouches are also compatible with AR15, G3, FAL, 2x MP5, and much more.

The biggest pain with the Taco is mounting them on something

The HSGI taco works great. I just run the SKD Tactical Eagle Rig. Holds 4 AK mags no problem. Old pic but shows the bulgy mag in it. Ran this through Vickers AK class with no issues.

taco mags are great but not much protection from elements, like rain, snow, sand or dust but all around good pouches

While true, you have to look at the other options out there.
Unless your using a mag pouch with flaps, all shingles are open to the elements.
The difference is that the TACO can drain quickly and be flushed out if debris gets into it.
Alot of shingles have no grommet or drain hole in the bottom.
Take a look at the UMMP if you want something to keep out the elements.
