View Full Version : Does anyone store gun oil in their MIAD grip?

I currently have the AA battery core for my MIAD grip, but I will be switching to an ACS stock soon so I can store the batteries in the stock and won't need to keep them in the grip. I was thinking I'd switch back to the original 3 round core, remove the rubber insert and store a small bottle of gun oil in the grip instead. I planned to try to find a small bottle (like an eye drop bottle) and clean it out and fill it with oil. Then, close the bottle in a zip-loc bag in case of a leak. So, my questions are...

1. If you are doing this, what size bottle are you using and where did you find it?
2. Have you ever had an issue with leaks?
3. Have you ever had an issue with heat causing a problem like melting the ziploc bag?

I do. I keep one of those tiny bottles of Machine Gunners Lube (the "Battle Bottle") that LaRue gives away free with purchases in my MIAD. I keep it inside a small ziploc bag, and I've had no problems with heat.

Thanks guys. That looks like exactly what I'm looking for. I don't have anything I need from Larue at the moment, but I dropped them an email to see if they will just sell me a few of little bottles. We'll see how they respond. If not, they have a few things I plan to buy later so I'll just buy them from them instead of the e-tailer I normally use and get a bottle each time. I have 2 ARs, but I'd like a couple of spares in case I have to use them at the range. I assume from the looks of it, these would not be refillable.

Grant @ g&r sells machine gunners lube in the small bottle. I keep a bottle in the side door on my emod and acs stocks. I think that you'll get much more use out of the oil in your MIAD vs. the three extra rounds (yay?) you can carry with the core insert they give you.

I am going to be putting something in all my stocks. Probably a small bottle of weapons shield or the oiler pen that weapons shield sells if it fits (EMOD, UBR, ACS)

I use the spare bolt and FP inserts in my MIAD grips. (Along with a spare bolt and firing pin)

+1 on that setup. It works great. The extra weight in the grip isn't much to worry about to have an extra bolt (more importantly extractor/spring) on hand. the AR bolt is a piston...they need oil more than they need cleaning.

the oiler pen that weapons shield sell

That thing is frickin sweet. If they made a shorter version, I'd get 4.

I found a tiny little "bottle" that some liquid candy comes in. It has a dropper type tip on that I pull off to fill and it fits and works great.

These were recommended by someone here I believe.
They have several sizes available.

I put earplugs in mine. My rifle can run without oil better than I can run without earplugs.

i've been doing the larue MG lube in the MIAD thing for a long time.

in fact, 2 years ago, i started a thread in the magpul mfg forum here
https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=13171

to specifically ask magpul for an insert to hold that bottle.

as you can see by the many pages of replies, they thought a lot about my idea

however, i switched to slip2k last year and am looking for some little bottles to put it in. thanks for the link above

Thanks. That link also has a micro bottle. You are getting the larger ones in your Magpul grips?
