That makes me think of a WWII poster I saw. It's one where a blond lady is sitting on a 16 inch gun.

Looking at the article, I was wondering if the scooter would go involuntarily reverse. But it says that recoil was not a problem.

It's a Recoiless Rifle. The epitomy of blast vectoring engineering. Think of the cone at the rear of todays modern shoulder fired Anti-Tank weapons. The AT-4 is a good example. It's kinda' like the Monroe Principle of Shaped Charges.
So the answer is it is the little scooter that could.
I know a bit about this stuff but I had never seen an R.R. on a scooter, I'm going to check one of my books and see if I can find some more pics'.
Found the gun anyhow, and if you save the piucs' and zoom in you can read about how they worked.

I want to build a "Muzzle Loading" Version of one of these someday, cuz remember, per BATFE, if it loads from the muzzle, is incapable of breechloading, and fires a non-explosive or incendiary projectile, it's a "Muzzle Loading Cannon". Just don't be firing it after hours, makes neighbors sad.

Can you imagine being the one assigned to operate this and receiving the order: "Ride down this road to engage and destroy any enemy tank you encounter!"

I'll bet the seat was removed to attach the Artillery Sight. This by itself could be of equal value, due to the fact that a skilled Artilleryman can properly use the same sight on multiple peices of Artillery, So as if the Gun was lost, the abillity to fire a separate weapon is not.:) Learned from spending time with 1/5 FA, 1st BCG, 1st ID out of Fort Riley, Kansas. "HAMILTONS OWN!!!".;)
