what is shortest you can go, standard bird cage, with out stamp in florida?

since i'll be building it for short distance shots 50 yds or less, i'm not going to get a custom barrel. most cheap bbls are easily 3 moa. so at 50 yds im within the 6 inch (approx) zero zone. which will be fine for what i'll be using it for run & gun/ cqb stuff.

is this flawed thinking?

suggestions where to get inexpensive decent bbl (im thinking 14.5")?

Standard A2 flash hider, welded, would be 14.7".
Its federal law, doesn't differ state to state.

"decent" and "inexpensive" are very subject terms..

pretty much anything will put bullets downrange, and do it in 3MOA, and do it within 3MOA at 50m for 12-15 thousand rounds. if the weapon is to be used exactly as you describe, you could pick up any $150 junk barrel you find on some back water website or gunshow.

as far as price for a "decent" barrel by m4carbine.net standards, you're looking at $250-$350, depending on if you want just the stripped barrel or complete barrel assembly (FSB, nut, delta, cap, etc). bravocompanyusa.com will have anything you're looking for, and you're not too likely to find a better price anywhere, except maybe gunbroker (starting to see some really good deals there again).
