I received a firing pin spring with my Wolf recoil spring so I thought , "What the hell" change it too. So I watched a couple You Tubes and off I went. The spring that came in the bag was shorter than the one in my TRP. So I did not install.

Any thoughts?

Is the only result, light strikes when it gets soft / old? Any feedback on firing pins and or springs is appreciated. Just trying enhance my base of knowledge on 1911's.

Thanks

IIRC my .45ACP Springfield uses a 9mm/.38Super firing pin (titanium). I switched it out for a Wilson Combat steel Bullet Proof 9mm/.38Super firing pin.

I use 16lb recoil springs, Wolff extra power firing pin springs and a Wolff 23lb mainspring. I don't have light strikes.

Hello,

Springfield Armory uses an odd, proprietary size firing pin in their current 1911s. The current Springfield firing pins have an odd, .075" Dia. small end, and their made from Titanium and are used with an increased length firing pin spring in order to pass the silly CA. drop test.

These light weight Titanium pins and extra long springs can cause lite-strikes, and in my view, any Springfield that's carried for protection should have it's titanium firing pin replaced at once with a steel firing pin and regular length spring.

The last I checked, EGW http://egw-guns.com/ and Ed Brown http://www.edbrown.com/ were the only makers offering the correct .075" Dia. firing pins for Springfield's.

Got4 and Bob, thank you. Seems unusual that a TRP would have less than an optimal firing pin. I may call Mr Brown tomorrow. Bob, via Browns sight, there .75 size is for 9mm, is that OK for my TRP in 45acp

I used to carry a TRP on uniformed patrol, but this kind of silliness convinced me to upgrade to a NHC (no proprietary firing pins or ILS to be concerned about).

Hello,

Springfield went to the .075" Dia. firing pin several years ago, and they use it in all their 1911s regardless of caliber. So Yes, if you order a pin from Brown's, #826 is the one you need. Don't forget to order some standard 1911 firing pin springs as well.

BTW: I would also ditch the ILS system, mainspring housing and all, and replace it with a normal MSH and internals.

Here's some nice, high quality mainspring housings.

Bob, your working me. Now what's wrong with the SA mainspring housing? I have never locked it and do not plan to. How can that cause issue? Anyone had problems with theirs on their TRP? Or other SA 1911?
