View Full Version : Discreet rifle bag at Walmart? Who knew!

Warning: Pic heavy!
I was walking through Walmart the other night and saw this bag and thought it would be a good disguise. It looks like it could hold two rifles broken down or one rifle with two uppers. While it's not a Pelican or Storm case it was $17! I think a little bit of foam and glue, I could add some rigidity to the bag.

It comes with two detachable straps but they're a little too short. I suppose one could use a sling with HK snap hooks as a strap. Kind of a "hide in plain sight" thing.

Outside the box. I love it and would pick one up if I could get to an "ice fishing country" Wal-Mart. I live too south for them to carry that stuff.

Yeah, ice fishing gear might look a little out of place in Las Vegas. :D

Yeah, I think the 'discreet' part would be null and void walking down Tumbleweed Drive. :p It would look out of place here too in the summer. But for the six months of winter, I've got a bag that won't attract attention except from those who know me better. :D

On a little side note: Today at the range, I picked up ~200 .223 empties that a couple of idiots left behing along with about 3lbs of snow! My fingers were brutally numb by the time I left.

Can you measure the inside length, as well as diagonally? Thanks.

2-pack of fat sharpies are $0.75 on aisle 8. Problem solved. ;)

Yeah.

-Ok, that guy right there isn't carrying a fishing stick... I bet it's a dildo collection... crazy guy. :D

You could just stecil "Used Pocket Vagina's" on the outside of it. You could leave it on a park bench all day and it wouldn't get stolen.

One could also use those camp[ing] chair bags. Idea here:

He said Las Vegas, not San Francisco! :D

I know a couple of guys who might "take it to throw it out so kids don't find it."

The tag said it woud hold a 34" gun, er, fishing rod. I was a little worried my ARs wouldn't fit but it looks like I could put a scope on the pictured AR and it would still fit. I'll see about getting dimensions for you tomorrow.

I've done that camping chair bag thing when I had to take my 10/22 to my local gun store and I didn't have a case. Couple of the people in there had a good chuckle.
Tennis racket bags are great for an AR if you take the upper and lower apart. They're padded too.

I would wager that 98% percent of the people that look at the bag won't even bother to read what the lettering says.

One very good way to disguise anything on the inside of a bag like that is to take a used GI sleeping pad and use that for the lining. Cut two rectangular sheets and two narrow strips. Use spray cement to sandwich one strip between the two sheets and then reinforce the bottom with the other narrow strip. GI sleeping pad foam is stiff enough not to give away any shapes and will protect things from the average dent and ding.

A "1/2" size "student guitar case" works well, too. I got one from eBay last year for $10.

Then I got a classic guitar case for my M14. Then I got a ukulele case for my spotting scope...

A layer of eggcrate foam, and it's a nice "discreet" case.

Scheels and Cabelas both have ice fishing rod bags that will hold a ~32" OAL carbine. $15-$30.

I just bought a NIKE T-Ball bag that fits my BCM middie perfectly. No padding, but great for walking house to car. Comes in blue or red with giant "swoosh" on the side. No way anyone would guess the contents. I'll check the model and post some picks when I have time.

My thought too but a good idea on thinking out of the box.

Take your sharpie and black out the letter E

or make a hyphen out of it

As promised: The inside dimensions are 32.5" x 7.5" x 2.5" with a diagonal dimension of 33.5"

Today I mounted a 3x scope on my Stag AR and it still fits in the bag.
