Thurmont may work, I'm not a member there yet (this spring hopefully).

They have IPSC and IDPA there all the time. I've also shot a 3 gun there. They have one large bay that would work for a class.

Myself and three of my co-workers would sign up for a pistol course with them.

According to the website, a minimum of 18seats are required to be filled. What class would you guys be more interested in? I would really like a handgun course but wouldn't mind a carbine course either...

We should get a realistic list of people serious about a course, figure out a range, and a date. Thurmont is a suggestion, anyone else have places where we could host this? 50yd minimum is required for the carbine course.

JeepDriver
01-26-10, 14:23
Date wise, I have to do it between April and October. Winter is a no go for me due to work.

I would prefer handgun, however I'm in for which ever one we can arrange. If we can arrange a one day handgun and one day carbine that would be optimal.

I don't want to pay a $100 a day range fee, but I understand that some range fee may be required.

I would be interested in handgun. Thurmount would be a good venue for handgun but not carbine, the action bays are only 25 yards deep.

There have not been many Magpul classes in the Northeast so any or a combination of classes would have a good turnout. I would be in for a carbine II and a handgun class.

We need to find a range. Something we can have for the two days without costing an arm and a leg. The range I shoot at (Gilbert's Indoor Range) is asking for $200 an hour for the pistol side of the range (F THAT).

I'm trying to get a carbine course offered about 60 minutes west of DC. I'm waiting to hear back from the instructors next month. Class would be for 10-12 students. Not sure on price as this would be their first civilian class ( all others are for federal or military ). I'll post more details as they emerge.

Magpul Instructors? If not who? I would be interested that close to DC.

I called back to make sure that one of the instructors was a magpul instructor ( previously was told to me by office staff that one was) . Turns outs she made a mistake and they are not Magpul instructors. I apologize for jumping the gun and will post in the other training section. They are still looking into having a civilian carbine course for this spring ( currently only Federal law enforcement and military.)

BSR is the company and located in Summit point WV.

Have you checked out Pat Goodale at PFT in West Virginia. May be our best option close to the DC Beltway.

http://www.pgpft.com/Current_PFT_Sked_DateAndClass.htm

I have trained at Pat's facility several times. The range consists of several seperate ranges to include movers, steel and a shoot house.

The above link is Pat's schedule. He has a few open pistol and carbine classes this year. If he has an open weekend and there is enough interest we can have a private M4 Carbine class. I would be willing to coordinate if needed.

Feel free to contact me direct if you have any questions.

Pat Rogers who is the owner of EAG tactical does rifle courses in the VA/MD area at culpeper. He is actually doing a course this weekend.

Pat is a solid instructor and has killed more people with his carbine than swine flu. He is a vietnam vet (Marines), and NYC Swat guy. You can find his course schedule at http://www.eagtactical.com/. Looks like he has a carbine course coming up 25-26 September at Culpeper.

John Murphy from FPF Training does rifle course in the area as well as pistol courses. www.fpftraining.com.

We also do courses on dynamic handgun we have an upcoming course July 10-11. We use the same range as Pat and John in Culpeper. Our website is still under construction but you can check out our next course anouncement at https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=55388

Pat and John provide excellent courses if you are looking for a carbine course or handgun course from John!

Just a reminder for any folks who live in VA/MD, we have a course september 18-19th. Check it out at www.virginia-tactical.com. Last course of the year.

There are some AARs written on it as well in the training section. We do an intermediate to high level pistol course. The number of students is never more than 8, and we have 2 instructors for each class.

We focus on building accuracy at high levels of speed in order to stop a threat or multiple threats while surviving the gunfight.

send me a message if you are interested in attending!

You can also check out info about us on our website.

I was going to mention this, but wanted to refrain as I do not have direct experience with the Hatfield's (or ANY) training classes.

I did want to say that I do know the lead instructor well, having trained with him for a few years, and I can say that in my experience his approach to teaching is very well thought out and organized. I know that he has solid credentials and would encourage folks looking for a local option to consider these Hatfield's classes.

They have held basic and advanced carbine and pistol courses, and will probably add tactical shotgun for 2012.

Redback One can provide you guys with training in the Northern VA/MD area. We would need a minimum of 15 shooters for a successful course and can provide instruction in either pistol, carbine or shotgun.

Shoot me a PM if your interested in getting something going in your Region.

I am happy to field any questions regarding our training here in this sub-forum.

Thanks,

I'm very interested in just about any class, but I can't quite be counted on for being able to attend yet. I'm only available during the summer really, and am still waiting to see what the Army wants me to do and when this summer. If things start to get going then hopefully I'll be able to make one work, or once I know my schedule then hopefully I can throw my name in.

JSGlock34
01-03-12, 18:43
Having looked into hosting a course in the past, I've found that the main difficulty in scheduling a course in the Washington DC area is venue. Many of the ranges have training contracts with the federal government and charge rates that private users find exorbitant. Most students don't want to pay a $200 range fee (per day) on top of the course tuition.

Thankfully there are options - and Culpepper in particular has emerged as a location within reasonable driving distance where typically there are a number of quality classes offered each year. However, it is difficult to arrange a course for visiting 'out-of-town' instructors without the range costs becoming prohibitive.

Any updates? (Wishing you much luck in this endeavor.) The hard part with this region seems to be the exorbitant price of range fees.

Waiting to hear back from my Friend who is getting things setup with the above mentioned Companies. Exorbitant range fees do make things harder...but luckily it is a privately owned range that is not a Shooting Club or a Range opened to the Public. :D

Again, I will update when I have something solid with dates set in stone. More than likely the classes will be 2013 in the Spring and Summer Months in Maryland.
