I purchased a new RC-4 and am considering having it re profiled to a convex edge.
Those that have done this, did you wait until your bevel edge dulls before the re profiling, or do you do it immediately?
Thanks for any info.

I think the RC-4 has a secondary bevel, if so it will be much easier to re-profile the secondary bevel. If you maintain the flat bevel on a strop with compound, it will slowly become convex. To re-profile I have had good luck with sandpaper, I think I started with 80 grit, and a mousepad. The key is to use very little pressure. With a 4 inch blade the weight of the knife should be adequate. If you use too much pressure you will end up with poor convex geometry. I would not recommend letting your knife get dull, a dull knife can be dangerous as more pressure is needed when cutting. Good luck, I'm a big fan of convex edges. Just remember to take your time, you can always remove more material, but you can't put it back on.
