We have been using emox for the past year with good results. It is very lightweight, no expiration date on the chemicals, and affordable. Because it is not a compressed gas, there is no danger to carrying it inside a vehicle when IEDs are a threat.

We have noted that the powdered granules do tend to harden a bit, and this will cause the emox to fail. Our SOP is to shake the plastic bottles once a week to make sure they are still loose. The manufacturor states that each set of chemicals yields approximately 15 minutes of oxygen, but we normally see 10 minutes as the max.

The kit comes with a mask, but can be easily connected to a BVM for assisted ventilation.

Nothing beats bottled oxygen, but emox is a good option if you are in need for something affordable and packable. If you are trained up on supplemental oxygen for trauma situations, it may be a good thing for your personal medical loadout.
