I'd love to hear what you have for a 6.8 and see pics too!

I am thinking of going for a 10.5 or 12.5 in 6.8!

I have heard 1:10 or 1:11 twist rates.... which is best?

Where are the best sources for decent priced ammo (until I get back into reloading at least!)?

Do you use PRI mags or c-products and how reliable have they been?

I haven't been able to find many posts here on the 6.8. If you have some saved in your favorites, could you post them please!!??

Thanks guys!

Jon

I have a 16.1" 6.8 SPC Barrel with a 1:11" twist from Denny's Guns and it shots great. I am actually going out tomorrow to test out the 4 different Hornady rounds. I can shoot around 1MOA with the Hornady 110 Gr. TAP (V-Max). It appears the 1:11" twist is the best twist available for the 110 and 115 Gr. ammo. I have mine set up more for precision:

As far as ammo, SSA makes some good ammo and if you are LEO or have an LEO friend, you can get the Hornady 6.8 TAP in either V-max or BTHP for $145 per 200 rounds, which includes shipping.

You obviously didn't get Zumbo's message that those evil black rifles have no place in hunting.:D

I have an LWRC 10.5" SRT and a Noveske barreled Stag 16". I also have a AAC M4-2000 in 6.8mm that I'm just waiting on the ATF to get my stamp back to me.

That shorty is SWEET! How does it work? Any problems? What twist is it?

Thanks!

It runs great. No issues.

It has an ERShaw barrel and I assume it is a 1:9.5, 6 groove barrel. As soon as someone comes out with a 1:10-11, 4 groove, chrome-lined, carbine length, 4150 chromemoly barrel I plan on switching out. It should let me shoot the SSA combat loads without worry of pressure issues. I have been told by LWRC and SSA that my gun would probably handle it as is because of the short barrel length, but I don't want to risk a pressure related failure in a NFA gun.

I think I want a 6.8!! What is the lowest priced ammo a guy can get and where??

I am getting set to complete my SBR and I think the 6.8 might be a real cool caliber to go with.

I've taken 2 deer so far with my 6.8. it works like a champ. I have a 16.1 recon brl, from Noveske. Its a 1/10 twist and it will shoot MOA easy. Grant @ G&R built it for me.

Good stuff guys!!

So what magazines are you all using and what ammo? It looks like magazines will be a lot more expensive, but...

PRI and C-Products. PRI will be good to go out of the box.

Cproducts may be just fine, just make sure you do a functions check on the mag. If it doesn't work, call Larry and he will get you some that do work. Simple and $25 less than the PRI.

For factory ammo, use SSA and Hornady.

For reloading, you can't beat the SSA brass.

I use SSA brass to reload ammo, and Barrett mags. They are the best mags I have found.

I have one of Denny's 12.5" WOA SS barrels and it shoots very tight groups out to 100 yards. It can probably shoot better, but I am not the best shot. Also, I prefer the CP mags over the PRI mags for two reasons. One, I don't like shiny mags and two, the CP mags drop free whereas the PRI's don't. My CP mags functioned 100% out of the box as did the PRI's.

I'm excited! It's my first suppressor.

I have been using CProducts 6.8mm mags for almost a year now and they have been 100% reliable. I sold off all my PRI mags for the reasons that 'l2e' mentioned.

Big fan of the 6.8spc. I use a PRI upper on a Colt lower. I've had 100% functioning. I have both PRI and CP mags and prefer CP. Both have fed reliably with no ftf. I use SSA and Hornady ammo. Heck...these days it cost less than comparable .243 or .308 factory ammo. Midway USA generally has a good selection/price for 6.8 ammo.

Sorry, Zumbo...I took 6 deer in 6 shots with the 6.8spc this past season.
Next season could be worse for the deer as my 12 y/o son has claimed rights to hunt with the 6.8

I'd post a picture but don't know how. Good luck.

I'm really thinking the 6.8 could work for Antelope too... but I think the range would need to be 200 or less probably. I use a 25-06 normally and shoot them at 3-400 yards... so... maybe I should stick to that. We'll see.

I used my 10.5" 6.8 for deer eradication on my friend's tree nursury (we have a permit from the DNR). It dropped deer out to 225 yds, and it still fragmented.

With a 16" I would feel comfortable shooting antelopes much further.

Geez, ;) my 16" Stag 6.8 seems so lame by comparision that I'm almost afraid to even mention it.

Thanks for the info! what ammo did you use for the Deer? Also.. what optics or was it open sights?

ACOG/Aimpoint or IWAL2/PVS-7 for Optics.

Hornady V-max or SSA Matchkings.
