I will start with AAC....

AAC's booth was busy as usual, with some of the best looking guns on the rack, the AAC booth received a lot of attention every year along with vedry brisk business for Kevin and his gang.

I will start with the new SPR/M4 suppressor, a reflexive style suppressor with a 3rd generation QD mount which instead of one starter point on the acme thread, it has five. this allow for the supporessor to align to the POI on paper. You can literally mount the suppressor on any of the five starting point and watch your POI walk a full circle back to the origianl POI. very slick, very effectgive way to provide a perfect no zero lost with and without the can....and this can also work with different loads you might be using out of the same platform.

You can clear see the different thread starting points on the 3 prone style flash hider

The numbers are marked on the suppressor to coorspond to each individual starting point on the flash hider. once confirm which starter point is the perfect no zero lost mount, mark the number and you are good to go. you can also mark each individual number for the different types of ammo you might be shooting out of your platform.

I bring you the ARMS booth. the most interesting item at ARMS this year is an adjustable throw lever in order to make sure the ARMS product will fit all the various rail deminsion on the market and ensure ARMS' future for years to come.

The #58MOD can only work with the standard FSB, the new ARMS flip up front sight is not compatible with this version of the SIR MOD, a fix is in the works and should be surface by this year.

The new thrwo lever has a small lock tab that can be adjust by the knob at the end of the lever. and by loosening the knob/tab, the rail tension adjustment wheel could be accessed to dial the throw lever to better fit the rail system.

As far as how durable this system is compare to the competition, only time will tell. but the future ARMS throw lever rest on this new evolutionary development. all ARMS levers in the future will have this feature.

This rear sight has to be about one of the best thing to come about in awhile, it is very simple, extremely functional and superbely designed. two noteable standout in this arena is LMT and LaRue, the LMT is huge, with big knob that can snag, the LaRue is slim, light wieght and beautifully made, but there is not need for a QD on a standalone rear sight, so this DD rear sight is the best of LMT and LaRue.

The revised SOPMOD Block 2 RAS. this has to be my favorite rail system. It has the same rail feature as the KAC MRE(my original favorite), the excellent attachment system as the lite rail, awesome machine work inside and out and a detachable lower rail section for M203, or in my civilian case, maintain and clean the barrel..little pricy, but worth every penny.

It is sad when I want to build a gun around this rail system.....Get me a Centurion Arms hammer forged barrel and their upper, mate to this rail, have Monty put it all together....hmmmm! one reason I hate coming to SHOT, I get all sorts of ideas on how to spend my $$ for the rest of the year.

EOTEch had a very interesting sight on display this year...

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1891.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1891.jpg)
As much as I hated the 511/551 N cell battery version, which I voice in publically, i do find the compactness of the sight a welcome feature.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1893.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1893.jpg)
This new sight eliminate two problems, the constant recoil of the forward mounted battery and also the short and unstable life span of a Alakaline N cell battery by placing a CR123 battery side ways in a 551 style body with a revised, more robust mounting thumb screw.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1894.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1894.jpg)
Short, compact, more reliable, and offer a 500hours of battery life....AWESOME.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1895.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1895.jpg)

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1897.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1897.jpg)
Mate to this awesome new sight is the a much better designed 3x magnifier which no longer look like a pineapple...G23 is the next generation EOTech magnifier...

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1896.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1891.jpg)

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1899.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1891.jpg)
The new Magnifier retain the excellent Samson flip to side mount but mate the actual mounting system to the newcomer American Defense quick release mount.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1898.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1898.jpg)
Instead of having a complicated adjustment system on the mount like the last generation platform, the new magifier will have windage and elevation adjustment build within the magnifier. so all the adjustment are now internal instead of exposed to the elements....

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1901.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1901.jpg)

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1902.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1902.jpg)
Some might want to know since the magnifier does NOT has a reticle, why do you need adjustments? this is becuase everyone's eyes are aligned differently and also some rail system to optic mount do not line up perfectly straight, so in a perfect world, your magnifer does not have to have a adjustment, but in a world that we live in, this feature is a must, especially I had problem with POI shift with EOTech mate with Aimpont magnifier but once I was able to make the adjustment with the EOTech magnifer, the POI shift went away...

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1925.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1925.jpg)

The new G23 3x Magnifier with EOTech 557 with build in BDC and side mount control buttons.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1940.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1940.jpg)
Another new developement is the new battery box for the AA 552/512system, the new battery box are in line with the new 553 and 555 series. a more compact and more fluid design.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1941.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1941.jpg)

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1939.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1939.jpg)

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/websize/DSCN1943.jpg (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss09/huge/DSCN1943.jpg)
The box will better accommdate the M4 style handguard, so the larger foot print will no longer be an issue with mounting other accessories.

Great pics. AAC had one of the nicer booths at SHOT and it was definitely busy.

However, they and Daniel Defense both had bold white lighting on the display wall that was very difficult to look at.

The Mil/LE section was also victim to heavy traffic and poor lighting, that made it somewhat claustrophobic.

Yeah, I did too. Saw a 7.62x39 and a 6.8, both on 5.56 marked lowers. Didn't think to take a pic for whatever reason.

Magpul is the only place you can find the ACR, unlike last year's SHOT, ACR was displayed at both Bushmaster, and Magpul, but due to some unfotrseened production delay, the ACR are mostly absent.

But....The very cool Massoud was in its third prototype revision. no longer build with hand made parts, this generation of Massoud is all CNC machined and almost in its final stage....Now Magpul should just put this pupy into production instead of selling the rights to another company...

Last time I was in the shop (Surgeon), Preston had three of the stocks and I could have sworn one was in .308 and the other two were .338's. That could be wrong though cause I was in shock just looking at the stocks and I know the one he handed me to check out was a .338 but the other one in the rack looked smaller I thought.

No release date as of the SHOT on the 511/CR123, the price should be pretty close to the 551/511 range.

the 511/551 model line will seize once this unit comes on line.

At least resolve all the problems and bad press they been getting in regards to the N cell battery powered 511/551 series. this is also why the 551/511 series will be discontinued.

the unit is called XPS

XPS2 non-NV compatible
XPS3 NV compatible

It will be offered in standard reticle, 1MOA or a two reticle ballistic reticle.

Should be out by March.

The ADAPTIVE Combat Rifle is all about function and modularity. Kinda funny you can swap barrels, uppers, stocks, etc and not a pistol grip. The standard MOE size is a bit small for my meat hooks but the MIAD with the fattest backstrap fits me better...

It won't unless they make one that works with a rifle style stock.
The castle nut is what holds the Magpul sling plate on and the UBR doesn't use a castle nut.

Thanks SMGLee.

Quick correction, We don't make the Duo stock, that is the ACS.

Also the price on the MBUS will be $100 for a set, $60 for the rear and $40 for the front.

I've heard mention regarding the MBUS that the front site will melt if mounted on a gas block rail system.

I am a total newbie to the AR platform, and so please pardon my ignorance. I understand the gas block gets really hot, but I figured with that this would be taken into consideration when choosing the polymer for the front site.

I have been looking forward to purchasing the MBUS for some time, but will be mounting the front on a railed gas block, can it take the heat?

From what i'v seen the MBUS will not be able to be mounted to the gas block as it is designed to be mounted to the handguard. The front sight will not be high enough to be in line with the rear sight.

Anyone have any idea if the new end plate sling adapter will work with a UBR?

I've got a right-now solution for you, bud. Put a sling swivel cup on either side of the tube just behind the receiver (pre-production models already have this, production models will require either another cup or moving the one from the rear of the stock). Put 2 sling swivels in. Tie them together with 550 cord. Clip into the 550 cord. Enjoy.

Would I be able to by the rear sight and then mount a different front sight MidWest, or Troy perhaps? I realize these may be ignorant questions, but I haven't found a gun smith where I am that can answer any of them.

Thanks.

YHM is coming out with a gas block-mounted riser that allows usage of rail-mounted front sights on their gas block riser base. But it kind of defeats the economics of the MBUIS to begin with since this riser block is $30-40 IIRC.

Per your request.....This was not publically displayed at the AAC booth, it was only brought out at all the AAC vs. SF questions I pointed at AAC.

Well, this is supposed to be the SF can that AAC was able to cause failure by shooting it in continous full auto fire using 30 rounds magazines out of a HK416, the failure happen in the neighborhood of about 600 rounds...

Those who have been to SHOT Show or NRA Convention may have met Aimpoint, Inc's lovely ProStaff lady Angela Jennings. She is not only beautiful, but intelligent. She is a shooter and knows Aimpoint sights. It is always fun to watch people come to the booth thinking she is just a typical "booth babe" only to walk away drooling after she engages them in conversation about Aimpoint sights and shooting.

Anyway, please do her a favor and help her win a free vacation.

Other than greater compatability with M4 handguards do the new 512/552 battery boxes have any further benefit, and if so will they be available as an upgrade for existing 512/552 sights?

I like the looks of that prototype with the single CR123 battery. I've always liked the holo display on EoTechs, and I used CR123 batteries for my duty light, and my rail lights. So, it only makes sense to keep everything standardized. Hopefully its ETA will be early-mid summer.

Did Magpul happen to mention what the hold up is with the ACR? Did bushmaster drop the ball? Seems odd that BM wouldn't have it at their booth.

Dave,

There is information here on these boards about what is going on but long story short BM said that they are making sure the rifle is up to snuff before it is going to be built.

They also said that if it was going to go in for the Military Trials they wanted to make sure its as good as it can be.

Ive commented on this in another thread and i will say it again.

Either way we win.

If the Army accepts the ACR as the next infantry combat rifle our troops get what is arguably a better rifle. (The testing should hopefully prove that)

If the Army does NOT accept this rifle as its next major small arm i would imagine bushmaster would have quite a few rifles on hand from testing and ramping up production to meet the Army's requirements. In that case, pending a ban we will probably see these rifles.

Until then, all we can do is wait.

Does anyone have info on the "new" two dot A65 reticle that is offered in the XPS series sight (single CR123 batt)? I am thinking the second one is lower than center but curious what amount of moa drop this equates to. I cannot info other than what is on Eotech site but no photo.

Are there plans by ADM or LaRue to make a very short riser to bring this up to lower third cowitness?(I know there are sometimes some "insiders" here that know these things)

Not quite sure I understand what you are asking, but if you are asking what I think you are, LaRue has had their Eotech (LT-110) riser mount out for years, that will also work with the new XPS Eotech, as it appears to have the same mounting platform as the current 512/552 series Eotech.

As much as I want see the new rifle - I dont see the above being likely, as those guns will be select fire and that really pesky 86 Machine gun ban throws that idea to the trash - unless they do a whole new lower for civilian sale - which will not work if there is a ban.

I would hold out for a civilian release whenever the bugs are out of the gun.

If the upper is the serialized part why would it be marked as a machine gun when the fire control group determines its ability to be select fire?

Please state, to the best of your knowledge, the following variables of the situation:

1.) Who tested the suppressor?

2.) When was this suppressor tested?

3.) What is his/her relationship to the industry?

4.) What firearm was this supppressor used on?

5.) What length barrel was this suppressor mounted on it?

6.) What ammo was used?

7.) Exactly how many rounds were fired?

8.) Exactly how many minutes were these rounds fired in?

9.) Was this firing session videotaped?

10.) If it wasn't, why not?

11.) Was the suppressor brand new out of the box when tested?

12.) Were there similar tests conducted on OTHER companies suppressors that same day this one was tested?

13.) Do we know what failed first (blast baffle, end cap, etc?)

14.) Who cut the can to show the internals?

I think if we knew these above, alot more light would be shed on the topic for everyone who is curious, including myself.

03-26-09, 00:22
Well most of this is common knowledge at this point. There are some things I've told other members in confidence that I won't be posting here just yet.

Some of this may be obvious to some but others don't know it obviously...

Surefire sued AAC

The impetus was an AAC placed in several periodicals as well as showing the pictures on every web forum they are part of including this one featuring a cutaway of a fresh can that they produce next to a cutaway of a SF can that had obviously been very abused.

They were supposedly trying to advertise their pretty welds but definitely made it a point to illustrate this with a fresh clean AAC can and a heavily abused SF can. The reason for this, well, it couldn't have been too innocent.

AAC showed a patented portion of the SF can in the ad and neglected to show the same exact part in their ad, possibly due in part to the fact that their part looked exactly like SF's patented part.

Some people say this was no big deal as AAC has never hid this part in the past, but the point is, they DID in the advertisement they were going to publish.

AAC took this can to the SHOT Show with them and allowed people to take pictures of it. People they knew would further spread the pictures around the internet. This time, it can't be argued they were trying to show the superiority of their welds.

I wanted to see these pictures myself so asked that they be shown here. I wanted to see if the can looked just like the one in the ad at various angles.

I thought it was peculiar that Silvers had his can cut open on a bias and the SF can cut open radial to the bore- making it appear that the AAC can's walls were thicker than they were. In SEVERAL correspondences between Robert Silvers and myself, he stated this wasn't the case, that there was no direction given to the person who did the cutting. I guess they just decided to cut the AAC can differently themselves. It's really no big deal though. I can believe what Robert Silvers told me in messages we exchanged on this site. It was just something I questioned and we discussed back and forth.

I really don't know exactly what SF is suing AAC for. I would imagine there are at least two separate reasons if not many more variations on each.

larry0071
03-26-09, 06:57
I really don't know exactly what SF is suing AAC for. I would imagine there are at least two separate reasons if not many more variations on each.

I deal with two companies that offer VERY similar, but yet SLIGHTLY different products. One is PureFlow Technologies (AirDog and Raptor Diesel Fuel Systems) and the other is his very own son.... Diesel Performance Products Inc. (FassRides.com) (FASS Fuel Systems and HPFP Fuel Pumps). They have sued each other (Father owns one, son owns the other!) 10 ways from Sunday! In reality, both make a fine system and have similar reliability....but each would love to see the other shut down and killed by the legal system. I assume these two companies an in a similar situation.... they despise each other and dream of painfull bloody death of the other. This is normal in American business, it is expected and it happens each day.

Another 10 year string of legal battles can be found with two other companies I deal with.... MPC and SteelShield. Again, normal corporate entities doing battle for whatever reasons they decide to do battle over.

I don't think these are unusual events or that big of a deal, it's just a part of doing business. You got to be tough to survive, and tougher yet if your dumb!

Doesn't matter how you feel about the two products, one company actively pimping photos of another company's broken product -- especially without documented, verifiable details of how it broke -- is unprofessional in the extreme.

"Not on display at SHOT" is also a bunch of BS if they're letting well known industry photographers take all the pictures they want.

I have no idea who makes a better suppressor, Surefire or AAC. I certainly know which company has more integrity.

edited to add: And for the record, I have said that to my former CEO.

Now that Eotech is participating in the magnifier concept, why did they not put the XPS buttons on the side?

Is this a big deal or can you still use the buttons with a magnifier in place?

How does the XPS 0, 1, 2 differ? Their website says 'it is the number of buttons on the back' but I cannot find a photo of the back.

Dealer sites imply 0, 1, 2 is the reticle pattern and not the number of buttons.

I like how this is 1/4 lb lighter than the AA model and battery life is quoted as the same (at least when alkaline AA are used). Downside is less common batteries but as long as my flashlights need CR123 I am not sure I care much.

I got this from the EoTech site, "Three reticle options: 0- 65MOA circle with 1 MOA aiming dot, 1-single 1MOD aiming dot, 2-65MOA circle with two 1MOS aiming dots"

Your comment about the number of buttons on the back relates to the model number XPS2 or XPS3. Again, from the EoTech site "Available in Night Vision (XPS3) and non- Night Vision (XPS2) versions. The numbers reflect the number of the buttons on the back of the sight".

Basically there will be 6 versions available...

First, it was not shot continuous full auto fire. It was 580 rounds semi auto then full auto, alternating mags. And then after 8 mags, a cool down period.

Second, what have you been led to believe that is not true? You don't give specific examples.

They claimed the BLACKOUT violated their flash hider patent. Rather than ask us about this, they filed in federal court.

As I remember, they submitted 'evidence' in the form of photographs that claimed to show they had better flash reduction (they do not). The photographs were labeled one way, but we demanded the original digital photos and inspected the meta-data. Our investigation learned that they shot the BLACKOUT with more exposure and a different setting than they had labeled the photos. We showed them that between the altered photos and the fact that they were wrong about the patent, they had three days to drop it with prejudice. They withdrew their claim the next morning. They must have had bad advice from their lawyer or someone because they lost the ability to file again, and hence -- lost their patent protection from AAC.

IIRC there was another issue concerning some photo(s) and allegations being thrown around about photo-shopping of a product, etc.... My question is what exactly caused this rivalry to become so nasty? Why does it seem that only one company appears to be banging the gong and not the other?

I am sure that I can speak for quite a few people when I say that the last thing anyone wants or needs is a lot of drama. I think people simply want the facts so that an intelligent and informed choice can be made when it comes selecting a product.

SureFire LLC denied Preliminary Injunction against AAC.

SureFire LLC had filed a lawsuit claiming false advertising, by way of the Lanham Act.

A United States District Judge denied their motion for a Preliminary Injunction. Here are some quotes:

Whether The Statements Were Deceptive – Per the above reasoning, the Court finds that SureFire has not shown a likelihood that it will succeed on this element of the claim. Because SureFire has not successfully demonstrated a likelihood that AAC's advertisement was deceptive, it is unnecessary to consider this element of the Lanham Act.

The Court again reiterates that SureFire has not made a strong showing that the advertisement contains false statements, the advertising misleads consumers, or that it will suffer injury as a result of the advertisement.

The Court finds that SureFire has not shown a robust likelihood of success...

That's unfortunate. I would like to point out that it appears self-serving that many of of your main competitors' suppressors can get tested and filmed, by AAC staff or AAC interested parties, but never the AAC suppressors.

SureFire LLC denied Preliminary Injunction against AAC.

A few points:

A preliminary injunction of the nature requested by Surefire, as pointed out by the court, is not issued lightly. A call for injunctive relief prior to the full airing of facts and arguments is much like punishing someone before finding him guilty. While such injunctions are common enough that we've all heard of them, the burden to get one is higher than the burden of winning the underlying case.
Much of the court's reasoning rested on the argument that the suppressor pictured in the advertisement couldn't be readily identified as a Surefire product.
Another major sticking point with the court was Surefire's inability to demonstrate that consumers had been convinced there was actually anything wrong with Surefire suppressors.
Now that Surefire knows where the weaknesses in its case are, it will be better able to prepare for the actual trial. That is, btw, one reason why plaintiffs try to get preliminary injunctive relief in the first place: so they know which issues the court expects them to address with more specificity and/or weightier evidence.

Some of what you quoted from the decision was taken way out of context, btw. You might want to check with your lawyer before you make further statements which are demonstrably misleading.

Of particular note, AAC is not arguing that its product is in any way better than Surefire's.

Here's a question for AAC: Are you still running the same ad? Because if you're not, then Surefire got the result the same result as if they'd won the injunction.

Much of the court's reasoning rested on the argument that the suppressor pictured in the advertisement couldn't be readily identified as a Surefire product.
No. Page 6, line 16.

"The Court Finds that AAC's alleged statements were not literally false on their face [with or without knowing if it was SureFire] or by necessary implication [if it was known as SureFire]."

That's a perfect example of you being misleading. The next two sentences of the court's decision reads, and I quote:

"As correctly stated by AAC, SureFire's assertion the the advertisement disparages SureFire's suppressors rests on the notion that the suppressor can be positively identified as SureFire's. However, because the advertisement makes no specific mention that the inferior suppressor is in fact a SureFire suppressor, the Court finds that the statements at issue are not literally false on their face." (emphasis in original)

So I say again, the crux of the decision was that SureFire failed to prove that the suppressor being shown was a SureFire suppressor.

Page 7, line 15.

"However, SureFire fails to provide evidence that the advertisement's implicit messages are false."

Again, taken out of context. What the court said is that SureFire didn't present evidence that spot welds are as good as or superior to circumferential welds. It passed absolutely no judgment suggesting that AAC's claim was true ... it simply said that SureFire hadn't presented evidence proving the claim was false. That is a huge difference.

Yes, and we have no empirical/video proof that AAC's suppressors can withstand it either, do we?

So as it stands right now, all we really know is that one Gemtech can, and one Surefire can, tested by AAC personnel, have been defeated. Sample sizes of one only tell you about that ONE unit. When it is repeated, with variables reduced, or eliminated, then you can indicate a trend.

A single data point can not show a trend up or down, can it?

If AAC would like to put this issue to bed, they should post an unedited video doing this exact test with their products as well as a few more samples of the SF and Gemtech products.

ToddG
04-14-09, 10:05
One would expect SureFire has to prove the claim is false in order to win. They are the ones who filed suit.

Absolutely correct. As the plaintiff, SureFire must prove by a preponderance of the evidence ("more likely than not") that they were wronged via violation of Lanham. The burden of proof at the preliminary injunction phase is higher, which is why it's common to see preliminary injunctions fail in cases where the plaintiff is, in fact, later victorious at trial.

So again, my reading of the decision shows it hinged on two key issues: SureFire couldn't prove that the suppressor AAC used for comparison was, in fact, a SureFire suppressor.
SureFire did not present enough evidence that AAC's implicit suggestion that their welds are "worse" than AAC's welds was, in fact, false.

So the question is whether SureFire's attorneys can remedy those failings before trial. I don't know jack about suppressor technology, but from reading here and elsewhere it certainly sounds like a lot of people were able to identify the suppressor as a SureFire. The fact that AAC entered into negotiations with SureFire about the ad is certainly further dispositive.

As for the "which weld is better" part and whether comparing an unused AAC suppressor with a worn & used competitor's suppressor amounts to being misleading, again I lack the necessary understanding of the technology to say.

In some cases, tests are designed to give measurable failure. DoD and other government entities have been known to request destructive testing to show where, when and how repeatable a method of failure demonstrates itself.

I believe that the AAC SCAR testing is still covered under NDA.

At least the attorneys understood that it all rested on SureFire's inability to convince the judge that the suppressor was identifiably one of theirs.

The court determined that the statements were not literally false on their face or by necessary implication because the suppressor cannot be positively identified as Surefire’s. As a result, the court also found that Surefire could not evidence actual injury because the non-comparative statements cause injury to all competitors and “none is more likely to suffer from the offending broadcasts than any other.” Thus, Surefire could not show a likelihood of success on the merits or significant hardship if the preliminary injunction was not granted.

"On their face" means "On their own"

Implication means "connected with."

So to rewrite this in plain English, it would translate as:

The court determined that the statements were not false. Also, even if they were literally false, they still would not be ruled as false for the purposes of this case because there was no connection to the plaintiff.

Darby & Darby Wins Order Denying Preliminary Injunction in False Advertising Case
April 2009

Santa Ana, CA: A district court in Santa Ana, California denied a motion for preliminary injunction on Monday relating to allegations of false advertising concerning the sale of firearm sound suppressors (“silencers”) by Darby & Darby client Advanced Armament Corp. (“AAC”) of Norcross Georgia. Claims for false advertising were brought by SureFire, LLC of Fountain Springs, CA concerning an advertisement by AAC allegedly comparing the welds of its sound suppressors to SureFire’s. In February 2009, SureFire filed a motion for preliminary injunction seeking to halt further publication of that advertisement and claiming that the advertisement in question caused irreparable harm to its reputation. The Honorable David O. Carter, district court judge for the U.S. District Court, Central District of California denied SureFire’s motion, finding that SureFire failed to show that it was likely to prevail on the merits of its claims and that it also failed to adequately support its claims of irreparable harm. AAC was represented in this matter by Darby & Darby attorneys David Tellekson, Mark Walters, and Dianna Goldenson.

Here is an endurance test on a M4-1000. Please note that this was done by John Titsworth of www.silencerresearch.com and that he feels that NO silcencer can pass this test. It is pretty damn rough .

It would definitely be interesting to see a video of AAC putting their suppressor model that competes on the same level as the G5 through the same test as the G5. :)

Cool test video. :) Is the M4-1000 considered to be the AAC equivalent model to the G5? If so, then I guess we just saw the same endurance test the G5 was subjected to and obviously the AAC silencer couldn't handle it, either. :)

One thing seems to be pretty clear, unless the silencer is built like a tank (and has the weight that goes with that), the amount of full auto and very rapid semi-auto assault rifle fire you can use is extremely limited without bad things happening. Kind of makes one think this makes them of limited use to special forces, where they might have to fire very heavily at any time while on a mission. You can't afford to have things break down on you like that in a serious fight. Better to just stick to a flash suppressor for the serious stuff. :)

Has Gemtech ever explained why the suppressor that AAC tested in that video was not built with a fully welded core as Gemtech said it was supposed to be?

John has a different definition of 'passing then test' than I do, or the military who showed me the test does. I don't feel that he is free to redefine the test.

John only feels it passes if it is just about as quiet on the end, and still a nice suppressor you would want to own. I agree that once you do this test on a can, it will be not something you could sell as in good shape.

That being said, AAC cans have and do pass the test. I am not aware of any circumferential welded AAC can not passing and I have seen at least six plug-welded M4-2000s pass also.

Yes, they said he mis-spoke because in the past some other Gemtech cans did have welds on the core.

rsilvers: Ah, I see. What models of 5.56x45 silencers that AAC makes can pass this test without the silencer getting baffle strikes, spinning loose on the gun, etc.?

Are there AAC .308 models that can pass the same test on a 7.62x51 main battle rifle (only 20 rounds per mag, not 30)?

Does AAC make any extra heavy duty models, in either 5.56 or 7.62, that could pass this test and, after fully cooling down, still perform as new with no damage to the silencer (other than the silencer needing refinished on the outside to look new again)? If not, which of the AAC models comes the closest to this level?

This is a test done on a 10 inch HK-416. Therefore, it would not be possible to test .308 models or the SPR/M4 with this test.
