GMG 6 - position AR - 15 Carbine Stock

Sportsmans Guide lists this stock/buffer/buffer tube/nut/buffer spring for $44.97, if you were working in a limited budget that was going to take a year or more to gather the parts for the rifle, is there any known reason to think that this is not as dependable as any from say Stag/BushMaster/Insert average AR name.

I'm not looking for a professional grade rifle, I'm looking for putting together a pieces and parts home built rifle with intent to learn how to duracoat! I do want it to function, but no plans on using the stock to pry open doors and wedge stuck trucks out of mud :D If this is complete trash, I would say it is a bad idea, if it's average (acceptable to me is my Stag and my Charles Daly Defense)..... I'm in for 2~!

OK,

I discovered this much: The MAKO GROUP owns the GMG Product line.
I have never heard of MAKO GROUP?

http://www.makosecurity.com/about.html

Global Military Gear (GMG) weapons accessories and tactical gear GMG is The Mako Groups newest product line. It includes both weapons accessories and tactical equipment. GMG products have a lower retail price point than our Mako weapons accessories; yet they have a much higher intrinsic value in their price range than are typically found on the market today!

OK, so who has a decent priced setup for my stripped lowers?

I thought Grant did so I pulled up every G&R Tactical item on the site and there where no stock kits there.

I know that somewhere I found stock kits for like $60 from one of the venders, but I don't recall who it was!

It depends on what your definition of "good" is. When you figure that a receiver extension that is made of 7075 aluminum which meets spec is around 40.00 by itself, that should give you some indication of what a spec setup with all of the proper parts should run you. It just depends on what your goals are.

OK, so where is an acceptable quality 6 position stock/tube and all? I'm not into the $200 Magpul stuff, I am sure it is very nice, but I personally do not require that stuff. Anyone know if Grant or BCM or someone has a decent priced and acceptable quality kit AR stock kit?

I have stripped lowers I am trying to get finished so I can move on to the uppers. 1 short pistol, one 16 AR rifle and I think I might do a 20" or greater vietnam era clone with the triangle hand gaurds and fixed carry handle. Maybe not on that last one... I am so torn! I like the adjustable stock soooooo much!

I've ordered the GMG stock and it should arrive next week - I have high hopes for it.

It's made in Israel, not China, which is a good start. I don't see why the standard M4 buttstock should cost any more than this.

Will share my thoughts once I receive and install it.

Or... if it turns out to be J-U-N-K.....
Will share my thoughts once I receive and THROW it AWAY!

I guess until someone actually touches the thing, we will not know. So you are guinny-pig guy! (Spelling?) Let me know, I need 1 for sure, maybe 2.

you can get a quality set for $75 from bravo.. which i've used a few times without issue.

mako is a close relative of tapco. their stuff is used on airsoft often.

what about this:

http://dsgarms.com/index.cfm/product/2609_10/magpul-moe-kit---black.cfm

Its a little more than you want to pay, but you get handguards and a pistol grip along with a MOE stock and stock assembly.

The one you linked in the OP clearly has an import buffer. Since the buffer is imported, assume the action spring and the rest is too.

The problem with import buffers is that the weight varies greatly. Import springs also come in all sorts of dubious sizes and manufacturer. I've known several people that wanted to save a little cash here or there on their builds so they go with cheap imported crap. Invariably, they have cycling issues, usually short stroking or FTE's. Every single time, once they removed the import buffer and spring and replaced with quality American parts, the guns ran just fine.

I probably have a half-dozen of those things sitting in the shop right now for that very reason (they buy new ones and just leave the old ones with me). Hmm, I'm thinking I should fill them with tannerite and have a fun day at the range :D

So, in short: You're probably going to end up replacing them with American parts anyhow, so follow the old adage of, "Buy nice or buy twice".

Received the GMG stock this afternoon and it will be returned for a full refund. The lever adjustment is no good - does not work well at all at lifting the rod up or down. Seems to bend the assembly a bit, don't know if its a weak screw or what. But it's a all jacked up and poorly designed and heading back to where it came from.

I would rather get a Cav Arms A1 stock then a cheap carbine stock.

I've never used it, but you could try this (http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XDSABK&groupid=57). Made by DSA, the go-to company for FALs.

$163 for that one.

That Magpul is a fine stock I am sure, but it is also around 4x the money of what I was asking about.

I was looking for something in the sub $100 range, but I do appreciate you showing me that one.

I found a couple viable options from Brownells that are commercial spec, and commercial is GTG for my intended use. This boy (me!) will do no door bashing with his AR!

I'm a farm shooter/range shooter. If my AR ever became a weapon rather than a toy.... things in my life (and maybe the country?) have really gone to shit! That is why I keep you sheepdogs around.... so that I can play shooter on tv....while you live it in the squad car or in the service of our country over seas! You see, I am just an average American house father. Completely domesticated by a job, a wife, and three children. I do not own my own identity any longer, I am the guy that escorts kids back and forth to school activities and hands over my paycheck for bills and food. I am a zombie with a heartbeat that once in a while gets to run out the back door with his oldest son and do some shooting. For me, it is like what some of you may consider playing golf.... It is my happy time, not my ninja commando gotta have what the Army Rangers carry or I'll be found wanton kind of thing.

Well, Grant does mainly stock high quality parts, which tend to be expensive. Also, his sight is not organized too well, so sometimes you must go to search by manufacturer to find what you want.
However, if you look at that DSG sight mentioned earlier, they have Magpul MOE stocks (which I use and recommend,) on sale in some colors for $45 and you can get the receiver extension, buffer, spring, end plate, and castle nut in their AR15 Lower parts section for another $40-50. Better than the DPMS kit for $100, and mil-spec size to boot.

BAM!

Here it is! DPMS should be equal to any Stag/Bushmaster civilian rifle, maybe better?

Midway has the DPMS Commercial Spec complete M4 Type stock kit for $51.99!

This carbine length stock features a black matte finish with a built-in swivel. Includes an end plate, stock nut, aluminum carbine buffer tube, buffer and buffer tube spring. Telescoping model locks in 6 different positions. This stock also features a built in sling mount.
