Pretty  shows two videos of M-4's mag dump after mag dump until failure.
1st one standard M-4 [ You can see the barrel droop just before it splits.
2nd one shows a M-4A1 [Gas tube bursts]

Pretty cool. The second video has a great example of a cook off at 2:26.

I saw it, but I don't understand what cooked off, the gun was empty when it happened, wasn't it?

Nice video! Ive heard of this before but didnt know a video of it existed. Thanks for posting it!

On the second video he looked like he had double feed, which upon pulling the CH to clear, one round dropped and the other somehow chambered when he released it and then cooked off.

Looks like the "shooter" had trouble changing out mags....

Looks like the shooter had never heard of the Bolt Release??? I became annoyed watching him repeatedly fumble with the Charging Handle. It reminded me of an FTX at Ft. Knox using MILES gear with a weapon that would not cycle blanks, thus every round I wanted to fire had to be manually cycled, while running after someone who was running through the woods. Good Videos though. To bad the face of the folks firing was not visible, I'de wager they were wearing gas masks, as the facility appeared to have inadequate ventilation. That, or now they have all sorts of health problems due to inhaling burnt gases and plastic fumes. Poor bastards.:(

Weapon was secured on the left side which precluded use of the bolt release from the looks of the video.

He couldnt access the bolt release due to the mount the rifle was mounted to. ^
Thanks for sharing that video, pretty cool.

Good point 4thpoint.:) about the way the weapon was secured, but I was impressed with the second video barrel performance.

I was impressive to see the M-4 run until the barrel drooped:eek:
For me it speaks volumes of the M-4 platform.

So.....what exactly is so wrong with the M4 platform that many feel we should go to an entirely new system? This testing speaks volumes for the DI gas system and heat disipation of the rifle. Most AKs will start to cook off and catch fire at around 500rds......the M4 was still fully functional after about 800rds of sustained fire.

Goes to show the M-4 is a pretty durable weapon. Now if we can just institute the concept of LUBE down to the squad level,, and controlled rates of fire/ aimed fire, we wouldn't have half the problems troops are experiencing in the field.

Nice video. Just goes to show that the M4 wasn't designed to be a SAW.

But they shoot a bigger round with more powder = more heat???

I've seen videos of AK's still shooting while on fire also.

Edit: Does show how awesome AR's are though.

Cool video. It demonstrates that the M4 platform holds up well and it's not a SAW.
I wonder how many rounds a M16A2 could take with the longer barrel to soak the heat?
Probably cook off would be more of a issue than barrel fatigue.
