and two other bills ,I think the suits are listening to what the citizens are asking for

Two pro-gun bills are currently awaiting committee action and could reach the House floor as early as next week.

House Bill 330, Alabama’s No-Net-Loss legislation, is currently on its third reading in the House Agriculture and Forestry Committee. Sponsored by State Representative Craig Ford (D-28), HB330 would require that the state maintains at least the level of available public hunting land that currently exists. It requires that additional lands be opened to hunting if land that is currently open to hunting is closed. The end result is to ensure that current hunting opportunities will not diminish.

House Bill 364, also introduced by Representative Ford, would permit a law-abiding individual to store firearms in a locked motor vehicle while parked on a publicly accessible parking lot controlled by an employer or a business he or she frequents. This bill will protect your right to keep a firearm in your car if you choose to hunt or shoot before or after work. HB364 would also allow an individual to keep a firearm in a vehicle for self-defense during the commute to and from work. HB364 is still pending action in the House Commerce Committee. A vote is expected to take place on Wednesday, February 24.

I emailed my senator and the ones around me concerning HB2!

HB364 is not as clear as it should be. It discriminates against power company employees in Section 2, Subsection (c) by prohibiting what would otherwise be a legal right. Alabama P o w e r gave Rep. Ford $4750 over the last 5 years and he allowed the restriction to be put into the bill because of the money he received. Most of the Reps have gotten $1000/year and most Senators have gotten $5000/year! This is one of the reasons that the bill did not pass last year is it did not include this language. The NRA Lobbyist said she is trying to get the language stripped after it leaves the committee but there is no guarantee. Please include power company employees in your emails and help prevent discrimination!

SB360 was changed to remove the discrimination against the power workers. I don't know what they are doing about HB364.

HB2 looks like it is back in committee. Are you sure it is waiting on a date on the Senate floor? I would like to see all of them pass and get our rights back.

Please Contact the Governor Today!

On Wednesday, April 14, the State Senate unanimously passed House Bill 2 by a vote of 31-0. HB2 now heads to the desk of Governor Bob Riley (R) for his consideration.

Sponsored by State Representative Jeremy Oden (R-11), HB2 would repeal the section of the Alabama statute that prohibits the possession, sale, receipt, or use of short barreled rifles and shotguns. These firearms are already legal under federal law when properly registered.

A special thank you to State Senator Lowell Barron (D-8) for shepherding the passage of this important piece of legislation during the final days of the legislative session.

Please contact Governor Riley TODAY and respectfully urge him to sign HB2 into law. The Governor can be reached by phone at (334) 242-7100 or click here (http://governor.alabama.gov/contact/contact_form.aspx) to send email.
