Being a fan of Daniel Defense, I thought I should point out that DD has released four new rifles:

DDXVM - same as the DDXV except with a midlength gas system
DDM4v3 - similar to the DDM4v2, but with a midlength gas system and longer rail
DDV 6.8 - similar to the DDM4v3, but chambered in 6.8 mm
Ambush 6.8 - a variant of the DDV 6.8 oriented towards hunters

Check them out!

I have a DDM4 and love it so this interests me.

A few things I noticed:

- 1:10 twist. From what I've read online (so it has to be the truth ;)) a 1:11 or 1:12 works better.

- there was no mention of the chamber, Spec I or Spec II.

- and most surprisingly, it comes with a 30 round PMAG.

I didn't know PMAGs were available in 6.8. Perhaps someone did a copy/paste on some of the specs from their 5.56 rifles. I'm also curious why they didn't offer it with the 12" rail.

nice to see how midlengths are becoming more and more popular

I saw the 6.8SPC at the Daniel Defense booth and Joe Marler showed me all of the new products coming out for 2010. The 6.8SPC intrigues me since I already hunt with a 6.8 AR.

The midlength 5.56mm guns should do very well too. The new 'pin-ready' low pro gas block which is pre-drilled is nice. This shows that this company cares and has been listening to their customers who have been asking for pinned gas blocks. The also have a long low pro gas block which will cover the taper pin areas on a barrel where a FSB was removed. One other new gas block they have is a clamp on on with much small screw head caps that are much smaller which should fit under rails with very tight internal dimensions.

CHF barrel ..Cr lined...M4 cuts...

I talked to DD a couple days ago about the "Ambush" and their tech told me
it had a Spec II chamber

But 1 in 10 twist....

The 1 in 11 twist...4 groove...Spec II chamber is really what you need to shoot lighter bullets and hotter loads
like SSA's offerings...

For me I really want the 85-95 gr bullets doing over 3000fps out of my 16" middy

Its the hotter loaded ammo that makes the 6.8 such a nice platform especially out of
a short barrel...

Bushmaster told folks that they were going with the 1 in 11 twist as did Remington

If DD had made this in 1 in 11 it would have ruled...imo

Dang that is disappointing news...hopefully they will change their mind of course that
would probably mean a different mandrel?....

Following the thread on 68 forums, they promise it will be spc II and 1 n 11.

This will be a solid factory gun, great for the 68 market and the progression of the caliber.

Please keep me posted...this news kinda made it move a little.

The way my cut down dd 5.56 bbl is shooting, i could see a 6.8 in my future. I honestly didn't realize about the ii chamber / twist preference and lighter pills until very recently.

My first step into the 6.8 is the Armalite spc II 1 n 10, the 85 grain tacticalloads from SSA did an average of 2960 or so in 4o degree weather, the 1 n 11 should get a bit more. Accuarcy was the same as the 110's

A 12.0 X on a middy would be too gigantic of a rail, I doubt they would make it. Just use a 12.0

Just imagine another couple inches of rail on this (BCM Middy + DD 12.0 Lite)

A "mil-spec" 6.8 is really intriguing me. I never gave it much thought due to the fact that the only cost effective platforms that were out there were by companies that were not M4C approved (as far as I looked).

Other than the accessories they are the same rifle. It's my understanding that DD originally made the DDM4 as an out of the box general purpose rifle that you wouldn't necessarily need to tinker with.

The DDXV series is a more basic AR that can be customized to one's liking, but they are the same high quality rifle.

The DDM4v3 seems like the way to go if you are looking to get a rifle from Daniel Defense. I've heard nothing but good things about the rifles and the company. Most if not all of the people on this board that I've talked to seem to prefer the Midlength gas system as well. Good times!

It looks like one has a rail system and a vertical grip(the DDV 6.8) but What are the differences between the DDV 6.8 and the DD Ambush 6.8?

Also can you use an AR-15 in 6.8 to go deer hunting ?? (in Wisconsin)

I'm trying to sign up for hunter safety but until then, my knowledge just comes from trying to read what I can via those WI hunting brochures..

What are the legalities of using an AR-15 for deer hunting? What about functionality? i.e. is it humane enough to take down a deer?

thanks in advance..

oh and I've never been hunting in my life nor have I shot an AR before.. but I'm thinking to myself..

kill two birds with one stone by 1. getting an AR-15(which I've always wanted) and 2. ALSO have a hunting rifle, not ur regular joe shotgun but if legal and good for it.. a hunting rifle..

Thanks in ADVANCE!!

nice to see how midlengths are becoming more and more popular

I might be mistaken but itsnt the middy system popular in the 6.8 crowd because it cycles better, or reduces different issues with powder burn rates? Or something to that effect I think.

That is essentially correct. I think that the middy benefits have more to with barrel length than caliber though. Middy on a 16' barrel is the correct pairing as per the original AR desgin, IIRC.

Does anyone here knows how much it weights? I'm guessing just above 7lbs but it would be nice to confirm it.
Also, how accurate can one expect it to be out of the box? Would it shoot 1 MOA or below with heavier quality ammunition?

I saw this thread and had to chime in. I bought a DDM4 from Clyde Armory, because of the low price. Anyway, when it arrived I saw it was a very early model and was not what I expected. Bbl, and the extra rail out in front of the FS. I called Clyde Armory and they got in touch with Daniel Defense. There was talk of maybe they would do this and that for me, and charge a nominal price. This from Clyde Armory. Long story short, Larry Stanley from DD contacted me and said ship the upper to him, and I told him exactly what I wanted. In about a week I got my rifle back and it was perfect for my needs, all I paid was shipping! I offered to pay for the labour at least and he said his boss would not stand for that. Read there customer satisfaction statement. They mean what they say and that means a lot to me. My next rifle in about 2 months will be another Daniel Defense firearm!
2 thumbs up for Daniel Defense!!
