Looking at the above document, the Government is looking for companies with experience manufacturing the M9. Who else besides Beretta would really qualify?

It doesn't say experience manufacturing the M9. It says experience manufacturing 9mm semi-auto pistols. Sounds like they are possibly going to get another manufacturer to built M9s to a provided TDP.

TACOM Contracting Center Rock Island is seeking companies with experience in semi-automatic 9MM pistol manufacturing. The government intends to issue a solicitation in the near future for M9 Pistols utilizing a government designed technical data package with military specifications.

Honestly, this doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

The original M9 wasn't a good idea to begin with.

Now the Military Masses are stuck with it for much of the forseeable future.

Not a good idea? How can this be any different than a half dozen or more companies building 1911's during WWII?

Because in 1942 everyone was patriotic and trying to win a World War. Now it will be a bunch of corner-cutting business school grads trying to make the M9 out of MIM tin foil to get enough money to pay for their Mexican vacation homes.

I wonder why people keep calling me cynical, though.
