Hey guys, I'm looking for a weapon light for an ar 15 rifle. I'm considering one of the new surefire scout lights, they have a 150 lumen led bulb, and a ir light in one head. My question is, is 150 lumens bright enough? I'm wanting a S.W.A.T. type light and i don't know how Bright of a light to get. Surefire has a 350 lumen light but its bigger and does not have built in ir. so is 150 lumens bright enough or should i go with something brighter? BTW i want the ir for use with NVG's.

150 lumens is more than adequate for most uses.

Keep in mind that when used inside the reflection off of light covered walls can also be blinding to the person using it.

The scouts are super bright. If you were outdoors at longer ranges, you may want more light.

If you really need to spend the money, the Scout lights work great. The one below is my issued one while I was overseas.

My Fulton Armory Titan with a Surefire 951 I got off Ebay for around $150. It's a little bigger than the Scout, but it also allows the use of an IR filter, which I may take over the Scout next tour.

One of the most practical setups...an ITI M3 on my home defense carbine.

my opinion is that pretty much any surefire weapons light will be more than bright enough. i have actually started running the little one cell version of the scout and that's still more than enough light for cqc.
