You know that you made the big leagues when fans start making action figures about you.

I really don't understand the allure of these 1/6 action figures. But one collector decided to pay homage to Magpul dynamics with this...

At least it is a fan job and not a serial production by someone like Dragon.

disclaimer: I am NOT in to this hobby at all. However, I did for a time try and sell the Dragon 12" 1/6 scale figures as I find them interesting. I was talking to someone last year from the forum that these seem to be taken from (as I was trying to close out remaining items). The guy explained that most people take the figures and mix and match parts to create new custom figures.

So I suspect that this "fan" mixed and matched parts he had in his collection to make an approximation. So the beard would have been whatever head the guy had lying around with a beard. Not custom done just to match Costa.

Dragon is only one company that makes these "historical" action figures. Here is a gallery of some of their figures:

http://www.dragon-models.com/catalog/figure_pics/

I have been giving my son 2 Dragon figures each year for his birthday. He was born in Jan 2003 so the first several years I gave the modern Iraq figures but am now giving whatever WW2 figures I have left in stock. He is not allowed to play with them though until he becomes a teenager. He has gotten some el cheapo 12" action figures to play with until then (and promptly destroyed them ;-) )

Chad,

Did you ever do a gun show in Houston with these toys? There used to be a guy who sold them and my son got a few.

BTW, I found a great photo of a 1/6 scene that I want to post, but it shows exposed plastic breasts. I assume that is not allowed?

No, only the local Utah ones. Was never a traveling show person.

I find the realistic weapons and equipment to be fascinating on these sorts of figures and the historical contexts they are put in. But alas, my customer base did not find them so...

There are several companies that make various 1/6 kits, figures etc. Toy Soldier, Hot Toys, DID and others. I would call this more like 1/6 model building than toys at this point. The detail on some of these have to been seen to be believed. M4 with charging handles that move the bolt, metal m16 mags with springs and ind. rounds, etc. I have kitbashed my team as we were kitted in Iraq as gifts when we got home. Ive also kitbashed fellow officers, etc. There was at one point a 1/6 display in the ASOM in Fayetteville.

To paraphrase Jules:

Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherf**ker.

Just because you can make it 'detailed' and 'cool' doesn't make it any less a 'doll'.

original plans were to produce a 1/8 scale model but during product testing kid's heads were exploding. they scaled it down to 1/16 to limit the exposure to Costa's beard.

I don't give a sewer rat's ass if it's a "doll", "action figure", "statue", "model", whatever. All I said was that you can find an amazing level of detailing on some of these custom made figures.

For example, I've got a miniature 1/6th scaled flight helmet, (HGU-55/P with MBU-20 mask) that the detailing is exact to the 1:1 helmet, which I also have.

There's no need to feel like your "man-hood card" is threatened or at risk... ;)

Simply appreciate the details and craftmanship found in the displayed figure.

No one "plays" with these "dolls"...

I don't know how old most of you guys are, but as a child of the 70's, I can tell you with definitive certainty that:

a. G.I. Joe can kick the ass of any of these fancy boy "toys" shown here.

b. G.I. Joe is an action figure, NOT a doll.

c. A real G.I. Joe is 12" tall... Those dumb little 3.5" things they came up with in the 80's were a pathetic bastardization that brought about the downfall of "The Real American Hero".

In all seriousness though, I'd rather see kids out in the back yard playing with "dolls", including all the realistic guns, boobs or whatever, than sitting on their dumb, fat asses playing video games for 23 hours straight.

Just FYI. The fancy "toys" shown here are all 12" tall. These are 1/6 scale, 12" action figures. The ones shown in this thread (Magpul Dynamics, Confederate soldier, American Indian, Roman) are one of a kind hobbyist creations based on production parts. Companies sell whole lines of these 1/6 scale figures with all sorts of realistic gear, historical clothing, etc. They are basically fancy and expensive GI Joes.

Having grown up in the 70s (born in 66) and having had a whole platoon or so of the 12" GI Joes, I can appreciate these ones.
