With our high volume, I rarely have the time to inspect every gun that comes through our shop before it ships out. However, for some reason I gave this little Kahr MK40 a double take on Friday. Hold the phone! Stop the presses! Kuwait a minute! At first glance it was missing its grips, but upon further inspection, it was missing a whole lot more! In fact, the MK40 had no internal parts whatsoever! No trigger, no slide lock, no springs… nothing. Zip, zilch, nada.

You should have ordered a HiPoint. They have a lifetime warranty! ;):D

You cheap bastard, you couldn't even be troubled to pay for the grip panels?

I suppose you want a mag springs in the mags too don't you? YOU ALWAYS WITH YOUR HAND OUT expecting a free lunch.

Dealer to customer: "Have you heard of the new MK40 Lite? It has been specially modified to weight the same as the PM40 all while keeping the enhanced reliability of the steel frame"

Dealer to customer: "Have you heard about the new MK40 with the featherweight trigger? I wouldn't recommend it for self defense as the trigger is too light, but for competition shooting . . ."

Kahr MK40 - V.P.C. Edition: This is the first pistol, let alone firearm ever endorsed by the Violence Policy Center.

That was funny. Been working in that area for quite a few years.

I don't wanna bash, but I've never seen a Kahr run right out of the box.

I'd pick up a K9 at the right price just to make it a range toy for a few months and then sell/trade it.

At least their new Kahr girl is really cute.

You've never seen any of the 5 I've owned, then... ;)

All that stuff costs extra...

My Kahrs just came with a 12ga shotgun sheel so they could at least pose...

Very true. I have not seen your Kahrs. I'd ask to meet up at a local range, but there's somewhat of a distance factor here...

My PM9 ran like shit for the first 200 rounds but after that nearly flawless. Ive got about 1800-2000 rounds through it and I think its about time for a recoil spring.

Same deal with a CW9 I had, no issues until I sold it around the 2k round count mark.

It's their fitted slide, barrel, frame, kit. The rest is up to you. :D

I do wonder if they are sending them out like that to custom shops and this one got sent to the wrong place or.....?

I am happy with my 9mm Kahrs. I don't shoot tons of ammo through them but I can never recall having a function issue. My E9, which I purchased in about 1998, has not been treated well either. It has received "trail ride duty" many times, riding in my fanny pack when out on the dirt bike.

I think it safe to say I am conflicted about Kahr.
The elegant design hooks me, but their spotty execution pisses me off.
Presently I own a PM9 acquired earlier this year. There was a problem with plating flaking on ramp and in chamber that evidently came from bad batch(es) of barrel. To Kahr's credit, they promptly replaced the barrel twice and now its good-to-go. And in fairness, this was a defect that did not show until it was fired. But it causes me to question their quality control procedures.
All Kahr's are supposed to be shot 200+ round to break in. And while I understand the theory of this, and generally shoot more than that to break me in on a new weapon, the Kahrs could and should be finished to a slightly higher degree that would make break in less critical.
The fact is the average buyer likely does not shoot the 200 rounds. By chance I was talking to a friend last week, more a hunter than a shooter, and learned he had a PM9. When I said something about the 200 round break in, he gave me a funny look and basically said "what 200 round break in?". He'd shot a box and put it in service.
I also think very good lubrication is critical for Kahrs, but that's just my gut feel. I use relatively more TW25 on my Kahr than I do on some other weapons of mine.
All that said, I think Kahrs are worth the effort, particularly the PM9. The PM9 is quite a package.
My conclusion is they have brilliant engineers, but mediocre production managers and/or some penny pinching accountants.
Stay safe... and count on serious range time when you first buy that Kahr.
