I think I have decided I am going to run a Troy Industries FF rail.

The rifle I want to put the rail on is has a 14.5 pinned BCM upper so I cannot easily remove the FSB or muzzle device.

I have ran a couple scenario's through my head and this is what I came up with. Keep in mind I would rather have a longer rail instead of a carbine length. Plus I want/need a side QD sling attachment so I can run my MS2.

Option 1: Just settle for the 7'' DD Omega or Troy rail. (I don't care to cut the delta ring)

Option 2: Install a 12 or 10'' Troy rail by cutting the FSB down myself and cutting the delta ring.

Option 3: Would be almost as easy as option one...just get the Troy rail that has the cut out for the FSB and extends out to 12''.

Option 3 is starting to look pretty good, it is an odd looking setup, but seems to be a very good option for my situation. I want a long rail so I can run a AVG way out front ala magpul style.

By the way this is my first post and this is the said rifle.

If it were me Id just have the perm attach muzzle device cut off, and then install the rail you want instead of trying to hack the gun apart as is.

Cutting the FSB down is not a problem. You also have the handguard cap you have to cut off. Leaving everything on the gun while trying to cut it off seems like a good way to risk damaging the barrel if your cutting tool slips. That FSB cut down requires a lot of shaping and cutting to do right. Then you have to refinish it.

DD, LaRue, and KAC all make good rails.

I'll give a different opinion, but keep in mind it's just that. Keep in mind a 9 inch will cover a cut down gas block, but a 10" covers it more and will gove you more reach and look better. If you're going to go to the trouble of cutting the front site tower down anyway go with the 10" you really prefer.

It it were mine I would take off the handguards, pull the gas tube, and then pull the barrel to save the delta ring assembly. You can remove the pins and slide the sight tower forward to cut off the cap with a set of tin snips. Then, with the gas block re-pinned in take a hack saw top and bottom, no big deal. A dremel will get it to it's final shape without too much headache. As far as refinishing, degrease, tape the barrel off and use some high temp flat black paint. Push the gas tube back in, and put the Troy rail on. If you don't feel comfortable pulling the barrel, don't, then cut the delta assembly off and carry on. You can do this without removing the gas tube but it's less work than fighting it all with it attached and you need to remove it cut the cap off anyway.

I may just get this rail, it will give me the benefit of the longer rail without having to mess with the FSB or anything. Running a light in front of the FSB looks like a good setup too.

I have a DD Omega on my gun (16" BCM Middy), and think it is definitely worth the money. :)

I think I'm getting the same rail. I like my DD Omega too but I want the option of a light in front of the front sight too. Troy has dropped thier prices too. Stuff is cheaper fro them than Brownells on several items including the MRF, $225 I think.

This is a great option.

Why not send it to ADCO to either have the pinned muzzle device removed? Only costs $40.

Or you can have them do that and shave down the gas block for another $30.

Once you do that, you can put a DD Lite or DD Omega X rail on it. :)

Bravo Company has a sale on Omega X 12 FSP rails for under $180. I'd have Adco or some other machinist cut off that FH, throw the DD barrel nut on and perm a new FH on. Then you can run the Omega X and if you ever get tired of it, shave the FSB and run a Lite Rail. The Omega X has nice features like a slim cross section, integrated QD cups with rotation limiters and rail covers.

I'd like to see DD make the Omega, not the Omega X, in an FSP version. Right now I think that Troy is the only option for those that don't want to remove their barrel and FSB that also want a longer rail system. If DD could do this with the Omega it would be even better than the Troy as it wouldn't require the removal of the delta ring eitther.

I'd buy one from DD if they did it! I like the limit on the QD mount. The one on my Troy spins and irritates me. I think I'm going to stop using the QD on that gun. It is always twisted when I take it out of its case! What do you do to remove the Delta ring use bolt cutters? I don't want to take the bbl off. I also want to be able to fix bayonets!

Omega rails are the way to go if you odn't want to remove the flash hider/fsp/barrel nut. They are very well made.

I have already ran that scenario thtough my head and it isnt worth it. It woukd cost 40$ to remove the FH, 60$ for a phantom+ install, 50$ to have the FF rail installed, 30$ to mill my FSB + the cost of whatever rail I get.

All in all way to much time, PITA, and money. I wish BCM woukd have had a 16" CAR or middy in stock whenever I bought mine. 14.5 seemed cool at thr time but now it has became a PITA.

Rob,

I think the ILM is a good option, it will cost me $145 but I will not need a rail for my BCM 11.5" upper so it will save me in the long run.

Id say.. go with the option of "what you like" .. don't go for 2nd best.

Id like a 10in rail on the 14.5in barrel. but that's just me.:D
