Does the KX3 provide any practical purpose outside of helping sbr's cycle properly?
I know the cone is great in directing the gas forward and towards the enemy but my knowledge of these stops there.
Does anyone run these on their 16"?

OOPS.

It definately directs the blast forward of the line/shooter, but it increases backpressure substantially.

Running it on anything other than a very short AR system is not adviseable - it is hard on the system! A properly tuned short AR shouldn't need one, but if yours is short stroking, this will fix it!

Running it on a midlength system, or even a 16" carbine system provides very in benefit (if any).

The only REAL plus to me? Looks cool. :)

Up to what length is the brake beneficial?
Thanks for the reply.

From what I have read, it is not recommended on anything over 10.5". Noveske uses the KX3 on their 10.5" uppers. Give Noveske a call and I am sure they will give you the best advice. Good luck.

I have one on a 13.7". Anything above that and it won't offer much benefit. It does however direct more of the noise and gases down-range, making it slightly easier on your ears (and those standing to the side).

I personally wouldn't put one on a 16". That's a lot of unnecessary weight out front.

When you buy a KX3. The rifle in the picture of the packaging appears to be a full 12" rail covered Dissipator barrel with a KX3.
I am currently using one on a 16" with a rifle length gas, so far no issues. Though using one on a 14.5" or 16" carbine gas would be overkill for back pressure.

I have a KX3 attached to an 18.5" barrel as a means of directing sound/blast downrange. So far, so good in .308...rifle length gas system.

Some food for thought based on my experiences and personal preferences:

I have a KX3 on my Sabre Defence 11.5" and it has been reliable with M855/M193 and Fed AE 55gr.

Thanks,
I had no clue that they were that long nor did I know they weighed that much.
For the mere reasons I mentioned above its an unjustifiable purchase let alone all the reasons you mentioned.

Anyone have a cross section of one of these?

Anyone have a cross section of one of these?

Similar in design and the basis for the patented KX3. The Bulgarian AK HOBO brake.
Noveske sold the Bulgarian AK brake with a stainless thread adapter and called it "The Krink" before making the KX3.

The instructions that comes with the KX3 stated that you must disassemble the cone end for barrel cleaning. More of a re-assurance that nothing like cleaning patches would be trapped in the conical cavity of the brake.

I have a KX3 on my Noveske Leonidas. 13.5-inch barrel with the KX3 permattached. It's short, handy, great snowmachine gun and fits into the back of an airplane or on a riverboat with ease. Straps nicely to a backpack for climbing, too. Very reliable. The nice part about it is the muzzle blast -- little noticeable difference from the original carbine-length barrel. Definitely not as loud as some of the post-ban rifles that I've had next to me at the range, or the FSC556s that are so popular now.

One nice feature was the plastic cover that came with the device. Rain is an issue here and if the muzzle is pointed up for any period of time, that cone becomes a funnel. The plastic sleeve keeps the water out. I've had several, shot one clean through at a caribou without an issue. Hit the target and no affect on rifle function.

Weight seems to be the biggest thing people complain about when running these in 16" OAL or longer set-ups. I wonder how one would handle if set-up on a 13.7" "pencil" barrel and light-weight rail compared to a heavy-weight barrel that most seem to run. For my house gun, I have a heavy bbl and now I am wondering why I went that route for a gun that does not see large strings of sustained fire. I wish someone had some input on how a 16"pencil/KX3 system handles compared to a heavy 16".
