Looks like a new condition barrel.

It is a 1964 barrel in a 1965 Arsenal rebuild.

Happiness is the sound of an en bloc clip clearing the breech of one's CMP Garand. :)

Congratulations! That's one fine looking rifle!

I love Garands. That's a nice one. It looks like its made of really good components, and should probably shoot fine.

You may already be aware of this place, but I'll throw it out there anyway- There is a site called Springfield Research Service, and if you enter the serial number under the proper weapon type heading, it will show the last known unit it was issued to _IF_ they have it on record. Usually they don't have it, but I always check when I get a "new" military weapon anyway. At the very least, it will give data on serial numbers that are close to yours. Sometimes, you can guess from that- like if every number before and after went to one place. I know you have the paperwork from Red River, but the SRS data is usually older, and might be of interest.
www.armscollectors.com/srs.htm Scroll a little past halfway down.

I just looked there, an it appears it is all down for a while. Oh well. Maybe you will want to check later.
