A few weeks ago I picked up a DPMS sweet 16.

http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=1056

I took it to the range last night and it fired really well.
only concerned is not sure if I can fire both ammo out of her.

I shot about 60 rounds of 223 and about 12 rounds of 556 with no issue. other then a mag problem .

I was told from a gun shop that back in the day you can only go with one combo but now all the new rifles you can fire both
the 223 and 556 from it.
is this true? should I call DPMS to confirm?

Thanks
Pete

If the barrel is marked 5.56, you can shoot both types of ammo. If I recall correctly however, the older Swt 16's were chambered for 223 Rem. Your barrel will list the caliber.Hope this helps.:)

It says 223 1/9 twist on the barrel .

It says 223 1/9 twist on the barrel .

Then it's .223. Firing of 5.56x45mm may very well be possible, but is NOT recommended.

while they are almost identical is case size, etc...the 5.56 has a LOT more pressure. you could probably get away with it, but only if you willing to risk your gun possibly blowing up or your losing a body part or two...

if it says .223, dont shot the 5.56, i dont care how much you like to gamble :p

Thanks all I'm not going to gamble with the 5.56 it's not worth it.

I'll stick to the 2.23 ammo. Did anyone else have a problem getting their EoTech dialed in .. lol

Now I have 400 rounds of American Eagle Tactical 5.56mm ***for sale *** :D
