Anybody have one of these? I kinda wanted a wrangler, but after seeing these things I think I'm in love!

They aren't really that expensive either. What do you guys think?

I have wanted one of these for years to play with. If you are in an area that you can get parts, etc. for it. I think it would be a great vehicle to play with. Are you looking at it for wheeling or as a daily driver?

Same boat, I've wanted a Pinzgauer since I was a Boy Scout. One of the fathers who was involved with my troop had a Pinzgauer, and it was the ultimate Boy Scout transport. :D I even got to drive it a time or two once I got my license.

I have driven one, they are alot of fun. They have an air cooled gas motor, front and rear lockers, and independent suspension. They can be found pretty easy, and parts aren't too bad to find.

It would get driven probably 4-5 times a week. I like the "M" model with the canvas sides, but I have two kids and think the "K" model would be better for them. My wife thinks they are hideous, but I love them. There is a guy in my town that has one, but I have only seen it once and remember thinking how bad ass it was. The only thing that bothers me would be getting parts and finding someone to work on it. I also hear there is a ton of road noise in the cab.

If you can't work on it yourself it will eat you alive. They are like any older military vehicle, they require constant maintenance.

Yes, they are very noisy inside. The motor is between you and the passenger. Imagine putting a lawn mower inside a tin can, and driving it. The soft top versions are a little bit better, but not much.

Yea, I pretty much suck at fixing things. I think it would be a cool vehicle to have, but I could see a 35 year old truck being a money pit. I might just have to stick with a wrangler...:(

I've heard of a lot of folks buying a Pinz soft-side and setting it up as a prairie dog mobile platform.

Can't think of the web site now ,, but there is a guy over in Roanoke,VA that runs a small company that imports them and brings them up to specs for road duty, also builds them to play in the off road races.

If you can do a search and it pops up he can give you tons of info

It would be the ultimate BOV, but it's a pipe dream for me. Especially because of the parts and maintenance. And my wife is totally against it, but luke warm to the wranglers, so one of those might be in my future...

I can't help laughing at the you tube videos of the pinzgauers. Everytime you think they are stuck they just keep on going.:)

the volvo use common volvo engine parts the portal axle ? well those you want a spare around

the pinz has lots of parts around you just need some basic backup pieces which are found easy but as mentioned you want to be a wrencher or get very active with a club where the guys love to help others our for the fun of it

I have heard of people gutting them and dropping in a VW 1.9 liter diesel. That would be a lot of work but it would be the ticket. You could give the cab heat, A/C, etc and have a modern power plant with parts locally available.

It would be a multi year project/slog to get it done but the result would be very cool. I've been thinking of building an old school Land Rover with Toyota drive line and axles with my son when he gets a little older. A Pinz with VW power would also be a cool challenge.

I searched but could not find anything. If you think of the site let me know. It would be kinda neat to look in to.

I also heard you could throw the VW 1.9 diesel into a Susuki Samurai. Not nearly as cool as the Pinz, but I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper.

While none are in VA. These were folks that I ran accross that had odd duck vehicles, when I was looking for my mog.
