Why are we spending a billion dollars to build a new embassy in a country that is committing generational suicide via muslim immigration? Seriously, I hope we can get some of the cost back by selling the land in Mayfair.

I agree with your opinion.... I have a low opinion of the UK govt right now because they have banned Michael Savage. The UK of today will be us in 10 years if we don't reign in the socialists.

$1bn for something that could be done for $50mil. Amazing the waste. Why do we need a hotel for an embassy?

I'm guessing the "high security" bit of the embassy is going to contribute significantly to the overall pricetag. Generally when using capital funds the price of everything from construction to computers that will be in the building get lumped together on the price tag.

..and the UK is our best ally on the planet. Apart from that bit of unpleasantness in the late 18th century, we've generally been on the same side of things in the world.

Why don't they sell (or renovate) Winfield House, the Ambassador's enormous 12 acre estate in London, instead of building this monstrosity? I mean, it's only the second largest property in London after Buckingham Palace.

I can't even imagine what 12 acres in the WC1 post code is worth these days.

Exactly. We've had that property for a long time and it's worth a FORTUNE. I realize that the Ambassador has to entertain dignitaries and such, but good Lord - that house is over the top.

I'm going to bet it's no more secure than 10 downing st. And I know they haven't spent a billion in the last 10 years. The SIS building would run around $500mil today if you add inflation.

I think you meant the Chinese are paying 1 billion for our new embassy. With interest its more than that...

Don't worry, we can always print more money if we start to run low.

nothing costs a billion dollars.

just for emphasis, a billion dollars would healthily feed every American for 2 years.

a billion dollars would buy 40,000 new $25k cars

a billion dollars would save 50,000-100,000 homes from forclosure

a billion dollars would buy 2.5 colt 6920s for every living person in America

a billion dollars would build 55 state-of-the-art high schools

a billion dollars would pay the rent of ALL the homeless people in america, for 4 months

i dont suggest we do all these things, but i do suggest we do all these things INSTEAD OF BUILDING AN EMBASSY IN ENGLAND.

a billion dollars would hire 16,700 new police officers, train them, and pay for their first years' salary.

a billion dollars would pay the salary of 33,000 soldiers for a year

a billion dollars would build 10,000 average American sub-division homes

a billion dollars would buy 3.3 billion rounds of xm193- which would allow 278,000 people to shoot 12,000 rounds per year.

Building a billion dollar embassy anywhere, at least until we don't have a $12,000,000,000,000+ debt, is absolute lunacy. Which is, sad to say, par for the course.

When did this happen?

Perhaps I spoke too soon...I knew I had heard something about it being lifted but I guess they changed their minds...
