I have several Stag Arms rifles. I typically shoot around 100 rounds when I take them out. I have never had a single malfunction.

They have the blue extractor plastic buffers. I am told they should be black. Others say they should also have an enhanced spring and maybe even a "Defender" or an O ring.

Do I leave the rifles alone? Or, do I fix something that is working fine?

P.S. About 3 years ago, I bought a extra power spring, black insert, and crane o ring kit. I tried to install it. There was no way the o ring would fit. It was humanly impossible. The spring fit. But, I had to use pliers to get the retaining pin in. It seemed like a possible unintended consequence would be more stress on the pin. I just put the old parts back in without shooting it.

I made the assembly and disassembly of my bolt require tools.

I would go to GandRTactical.com and get the 3 pack of the BCM enhanced extractor spring kit for $12.00 and do all of them. Even if they came with the right parts, springs and rubber break down over time and it is a fine idea to go ahead and replace these very cheap wear parts every year any ways.

Also, stag uses standard buffers, you can slow it down a touch and soften the action with an H Buffer. Grant has them in stock as well for $17 each, get one for each Stag:

Next would be to home stake your Stag gas key bolts or to buy a higher quality BCG. Guess who can help you there? Grant! He has the BCM BCG in stock for a very good price of $139:

Once you do this, your Stag rifles will be ready for high round count shooting! No more 100 round days... feed that machine!

Get that Stag tuned up and turned on!

I have an H2 buffer and I staked the keys with a MOAB tool.

I did buy Grants kit. The O ring would not fit. And, the spring was sooooo tight it took pliers to assemble/disassemble the rifle.

I put the factory parts back in.

I put Grants extractor kit on my Stag Model 1 and yes, I used needle nose pliers to remove the OEM spring and to install the new spring, it is tight, but it was just as tight on another gun that I have from another manufacturer. Don't be scared, it will work just fine. The initial tightness when putting the pivot pin back in will decrease after a little use, that is because of the fresh rubber and tight spring. Soon the rubber gives up a bit of its pressure and things are fine.

I also do not remove the extractor to clean until a couple thousand rounds have been through, if your shooting 100 rounds and doing a detail breakdown, your overkilling it big time. Your free to do that, but it is not needed.

That extra tightness is what the parts are supposed to do. You WANT that.
