Eastern Fresno County, CA- Fresno County Sheriff's Deputies continue to surround a home in Eastern Fresno County, following an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred just before 10 a.m. at a residence at 18276 E. Kings Canyon in Minkler.

Officers had been assisting Cal Fire in serving an arrest warrant for an arson suspect, when the suspect shot two deputies.

The extent of the injuries sustained by the deputies are unknown. They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Following the shooting, other agencies were called out to assist deputies, including Police from Fresno, Clovis, Reedley, Fowler, Parlier and Sanger. U.S. Marshals and CHP officials were also called to assist officers as the suspect remains barricaded in the residence. According to Fresno County Sheriff Deputy Chris Curtis, an excess of 200 officers are assisting on the scene.

A school in the area, Centerville Elementary, has been placed on lockdown and CHP officials have also shut down Highway 180, between Oliver and Reed.

Around 11 a.m. more shots were heard, which Deputy Curtis described as a "volley of gunfire." It was during this time that a third officer was injured. That officer has been confirmed to be from the Reedley Police Department and his condition is said to be "unresponsive." The officer was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

A fourth officer reported injured around 1 p.m. However he was not shot, and his injuries are said to be from broken glass and shrapnel.

At this time, the hospital is only letting one guest at a time per patient inside the facility.

Curtis says the Fresno SWAT team now has the house surrounded. "They'll use their tactics and what they're trained to do to end this as soon as possible," he said.

While the suspect's name has yet to be released, deputies say they do know his identity.

KMPH has a crew on the scene and will bring you the most updated information as it comes into our newsroom.

Prayers sent that the wounded deputies make a full and speedy recovery.

May the attempted murderer receive the maximum penalty possible.

I hope the officers recover quickly. 200 LEOs seems like a bit of overkill for one guy to me. Turn about's fair play, they should've just lit his house on fire.

I am surprised that I saw nothing about this on FOX or CNN. I think the AAR will yield many lessons to be learned.

If anyone sees a follow up on this story, please post it up.

RIP.

From Law Enforcement Today;

Minkler, California
Reedley Police Department Officer Javier Bejar

End Of Watch: 03-01-10

Officer Javier Bejar, 28, who was shot from 80 yards out when he responded to an OFFICER DOWN call (02/25) was being kept on life-support until 5:30 this morning. Fresno County Sheriff's Homicide Detective Joel Wahlenmaier had just b...een shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant. The suspect opened fire on Det. Wahlenmaier, Deputy Mark Harris and a State Fire Official. The gunman then barricaded himself in his mobile home. As Officer Bejar came up on the house, the gunman opened fire with hundreds of rounds, hitting Javier. He was transported to the hospital and put on life support so family could come say good-bye. Deputy Harris was also hit with shrapnel in the face and eye. He was treated and released later that night. A stand-off ensued for several hours until a robot could be sent in and the suspect was subsequently found ... dead.

Ofc. Bejar had first served with the Marines and did tours in Iraq and in Kuwait. Javier had been with the Reedley PD for just 2 years and had already been OFFICER OF THE YEAR IN 2007 and in 2009 received a LIFE-SAVING MEDAL

Javier leaves behind his beloved newlywed of 2 years, his 'Family' at the Reedley PD and a community who loved him and always treated him as a HERO should be. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bejar family and the Reedley PD.

Officer Javier Bejar, you lived your life to protect the citizens of your community and of your Country. You were TWICE THE HERO and we are doubly blessed because of this. You did more with your short time here on this earth than most people would not have the courage to. You sacrificed without hesitation nor reservation ... even in your last moments as you ran to aid your Brother.

We will NEVER FORGET.

GOD BLESS YOU SON AND MAY YOU REST WITH PEACE ... We will take the watch from here.
