Im sure the title threw out a few heart attacks. I just learned that a remake of the classic height of the cold war (1984) movie Red Dawn is being released to theaters in November! I hope it is as amazing as the other recent remakes. Evidently Captain Kirk edges out Patrick Swayze for the lead.

With out a doubt the original is my favorite movie of all time.

Whats up with that poster? It is smashing communism, or supporting it?

Maybe the movies being re-released due to all of this anti-socialist sentiment in the country now.

Seeing as Red Dawn is one of my favorite movies (and I don't know too many people in my "age group" that can say that), I really, really, really hope they don't screw it up.

As I like to tell people, it was one of the greatest documentaries ever made...

My $ says it takes the Cold War themed Red Dawn and twists it as a parallel (USA comes to save the broken down Iraqis) (China comes to save the broken down USA) it will look like a pro USA movie as our young American resistance fighters fend off the hordes of Chinese come "to save us from ourselves", but it will really be trying to teach us that us saving countries from themselves is inherently evil by metaphorically putting ourselves in their position veiled with Pro USA appearing cover theme.

In my opinion remakes are only good if you had not seen the original, and when they change the story it is just a lame sequel, so I am not expecting much.

I believe those are actual movie props photographed on set, and represent a take on what you would expect to see as communist propaganda in a re-education type environment.

Does anyone know if John Milleus is involved with this one? Can't seem to find any info regarding that.

If not, I have no hope for it being worth a crap. It will be the same ol' left wing propaganda.:(

According to IMDB he is not involved, but I did learn he was involved in the series "Rome" which would explain why it kicked so much ass.

I was working on the road last year and one of the shows was in Detroit. I wasn't looking forward to it, but we ended up staying at the Westin Cadillac and Michael Symington's new restaurant "Roast" was on the ground floor. (Excellent meal and one of the best steaks I've ever had, no kidding.) We got in pretty early in the day so I checked in and then took off to go get some supplies for the room. I walked out of the hotel and turned a few corners and walked right smack into the set of Red Dawn! There it was, a stage, chairs, banners, propaganda posters everywhere, tanks and APCs painted up with the red star just sitting in the street (unsecured), various pieces of artillery sitting around, and not one single person or security guard anywhere. There were some pieces of chain link fence, sawhorses, and some traffic cones here and there but the area was not secured or closed off. It was obviously a day off because there weren't any production trucks or vehicles of any kind, and no crew.

My first thought was "Damn, the Jug Eared Jesus already has the first reeducation camps set up." Then I realized that thought was stupid. A reeducation camp in Detroit is just redundant! You put the camps in the midwest or the south, not in one of your strongholds, that would be wasted resources. I took quite a few pictures and some video of the scene, and even though I hadn't heard they were remaking Red Dawn, it was obvious what this was. I've done enough movie and TV production work to know that the way things look in person is usually very different from the way it will appear on screen, but standing there on the set it felt pretty low budget. It probably isn't, but that particular location looked cheesy. When I got back to the hotel I looked it up on IMDB.com to confirm that's what it was, but I've since forgotten who's starring in it.

On the way back from the store I walked back through the set again, and all I could think was "Tanks and artillery on the streets of Detroit, that seems about right." Not hard to imagine at all, but this 9mm of mine just isn't gonna cut it. This was in late October of last year.

Even the first Red Dawn (if you removed all the action) had mixed messages and wouldn't seem so pro USA if you just read the dialogue.
