I'm in the market of buying a custom barrel. I'm looking to splurge on an ABS carbon barrel for a 308 build. I really want the 18" barrel, as I dont plan to shoot more than 300 yrds. If I order the 18 incher, I get the option of having a carbine length gas tube or rifle length gas tube...
Is there a difference in performance between the two lengths of gas tubes?
I am planning on going as light as I can for my build, yet maintain as much accuracy as I can (thus the carbon barrel). This is going to be a carried rifle, and I don't want to have to lug around a boat anchor. I was originally thinking of going with a rifle length gas tube so I can put on a railed gas block. If I get the carbine length gas tube I have to put on a low profile gas block. Are cosmetics the only difference between the two lengths of gas tubes?
