thanks to new laws we can now take our handguns to work as long as we lock them up in the vehicle in a lockable container. my 03 dodge diesel 2500 has no lockable "containers" as the center console and glove compartment don't lock. GENOS GARAGE has replacement center consoles for $250 and i was just wondering if anyone knows of a less expensive alternative. nothing against their product but the budget won't take that kind of a hit right now. local gun stores all sell lockable boxes but none fit the storage areas in the truck. thanks

One option would be to get a locking case that you could cable to something (seat support bar) in your truck.

GunVault makes some options as I'm sure others do as well.

I don't disarm for work, but I do keep one of these in the car secured to the front seat:

It is not the most secure thing in the world, but then there isn't a safe that CAN'T be broken into. Cabelas sells them and advertises that they meet TSA guidelines http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat602007-cat20772_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat20772&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat20772&id=0045006
I have flown with it secured in my soft-sided luggage and it worked as advertised as a lockable thing for checking a gun, airtravel wise. That it is there under my seat if I am going to need to lock my gun up is just a bonus for me . . . . for you, it'd make a good cheap "get ya by" until you have more $ to throw at a higher quality safe & thereafter you'd have something for air travel or even as a decoy safe.

I rarely disarm anywhere. However if I'm gonna have a couple drinks, the gun goes in one of these. I also use it to secure my handgun when on TDY or visiting family out of state with children in the house. They're certainly not theft proof, but they most likely will deter a burglar in a smash and grab of your vehicle.

Console vault has a pretty slick safe for the lower console portion in the dodge ram. I think it is only for the bench seat though. My dad has one in his 07. Once you raise up the arm rest you have the other portion under neath and that is where the console vault goes. I think they are around 300 bucks, but well worth it.

I keep one under the seat of my truck for the occasion when I need to disarm. Carry my pistols in these when flying as well as my ammo in a similar case.

I got mine here http://www.center-of-mass.com/Store_InCarGunSafe.htm

My 05 Ram has a storage space under the front center seat that is kind of hidden. I drove the truck for a few months before I even knew that it was there. I found a bolt in safe for $150ish but I can’t remember what the site was.

For those of you using the in car gun safe's, are you using the combo model or the key model's? Any issues with them so far?
