I know there are not many but can someone please help me? I'm getting a 10.5 Switchblock upper barrel and really want the handguards to extend out to the flashhider/suppressor that I will be running. Has anyone one cut up there rails to make it fit? Is it possible? I was thinking about getting the 2 peice DD Omega rail and trying to cut out a place for it. The Daniel Defence Omega rail I want is 9" so is this possible? If someone has already done it please post pics and instructions. If u dont want to post it public than PM me please. I have a school to go to in a month and need to have this build done for it by then. Any ideas or input is appreciated.

Theres no picture, however they make exactly what your describing. Shows out of stock though. I have a custom build with switchblock from MSTN and Noveske won't sell me the rail that accoomdates the switch block. The 7" rail is driving me to distraction.

When you buy it, make the purchase with the Noveske rail which will give you want you want. Someone else already posted one of my pictures.... here is another.

I have already purchased the barrel from a member at AR15.com. I got it for about $40 cheaper and its still brandnew, never fired. Noveske wont sell the rail it only comes if you buy a complete upper. The complete upper is around $1500 and I can build it cheaper and IMHO maybe better, becuase I plan on running it suppressed I will run a BCM Ionbonded M16 BCG. I can build the complete upper the way I want it for around $1100-$1200.

Have you called Noveske?

Yes, and they do not sell just rails. The only way to get one of their rails is to purchase an upper or rifle.

Might be wrong, but I think it's a SWS (Superior Weapons Systems).

You might check compatability with the Daniel Defense Lite 9.5 FSP. That would give you 3 rails that would go almost to the flash hider. I don't know the length of your gas system offhand, so that may be an issue.

Yeah, looks like a special edition of the SWS Extended Carbine model (http://www.superiorweaponssystems.com/ar15extendedcarbine.htm).

IN A ARTICLE IN DEFENSE REVIEW JOHN NOVESKE SAYS THAT THE RAILS THEY USE ARE SUPERIOR WEAPONS SYSTEMS BUT THAT THEY ADDED THEIR OWN MODIFICATIONS TO THEM AND SWS MAKES THEM AS AN OEM PRODUCT DON'T KNOW IF THIS HELPS OR NOT.

Call Neil at the Gun Gallery in Jacksonville; he did a DD Lite rail for me so that a Switchblock would fit.

Not at all. The rail designed for the Switchblock is two piece with the top rear section being removable.

You should use the DD MK18 rail if you want to cut one out, a 9" rail might not leave enough forward of the Switchblock to put your front sight.

Great info...guess looks can be deceiving. Thanks Todd!

The removable top/rear section makes a huge difference for ease of assembly.

Too true ! We did a custom tube for a customer a while back and installation was tricky over the top of the Switchblock.

Is there anybody else beside Neil at the Gun Gallery in Jacksonville will do the cut on DD Mk18 rail?

i know its been 2 yrs since the first post, but in the 2 yrs, has any one came out with a rail that would work perfect with the switch block?

I'm still toying with the option of replacing my VIS, it looks like either a Centurion or DD cutout/FSP will work as long as you get the right one for your gas system. I know buckjay had a pic of his Centurion cutout, but I don't know the barrel length or gas system. I'd like to see an FSP version to get an idea of how that would look.

I asked dd and they said the fsp cut out measures 7.3 so u would still need to mill out a hair. But I have a dd mk18 with the risii rail. I would hate to lose my doo-doo brown color.

This thread helped me with my first actual build, a VLTOR, Noveske and Apex combination. The companion upper is a factory Noveske 6.8 Afghan that I bought gently used from an arfcommer. Both uppers wear Aimpoints.

Rifle
Noveske Gen2 chainsaw
VLTOR MUR 1S receiver (no forward assist)
VLTOR EMod "A5" Combo Kit
LMT LPK (I think)
Noveske 14.5" barrel with mid-length Switchblock gas system
Ranier Raptor charging handle
Geiselle 2-stage trigger
Surefire MB556K (pinned)
Surefire FA556-212
APEX Handguard w Gator Grip (custom cut to accommodate the Switchblock and yet provide extra length forward of the Switchblock.
Troy HK-style BUIS
Colt mil-spec M16 BCG

I actually bought the 6.8 upper before buying the parts for the lower. It has the standard Daniel Defense handguard that usually comes with factory Switchblock equipped barrels and I did not love it, especially for a rifle that I did not think I would be festooning with lots of add-ons. Also, as you can see, it is on the short side which led me to find this post and my eventually contacting APEX. I worked with Jamie at APEX to design and custom cut one of their 2300 series handguards (12.625" total length) with a window for access to the Switchblock, just like the one they posted above.

Even before this build, I first held a APEX with Gator Grip at a gun show and told myself I HAD to have one at some point. Light, solid and grippie without being too rough on bare hands. Really a great product. The ability to mount rail segments from 2" up to a full-length top section provides huge flexibility. So I had to make it work with this particular build.

Anyway, the folks at APEX did a super job as you can see in the photo below.

https://31.media.tumblr.com/1f2df6258a7cca649393b241601d3971/tumblr_myg45ghElb1tndtr4o4_1280.jpg

Yes, the tube in the photo is a second of the customized APEX units I had made and I will eventually put that on the 6.8 upper.

One comment about this setup and that is an extended grip with the support side thumb wrapped over the front sight can lead to a warm finger after extended firing. The Switchblock does heat up and such close proximity to your hand, even gloved, may require a grip adjustment. But that is not the fault of Apex and would be the case with any Switchblock build.

This rifle not only looks good but it can shoot close to or better than 1 MoA depending on the shooter and ammo used.

As you would expect, because these are custom designs and individual runs on the CNC machines they are a bit pricey, but well worth it in my opinion.

has anyone tried the troy handguards with cut outs for fixes front sight?

First time poster but followed this page forever. Old post but wanted to add my 2 cents. I found a Midwest Industries 2-piece rail that worked perfect for my 10.5 switchblock. All I did was dremel the rail for the opening for the switch block. No disassembly of the switchblock required. Just pulled the 2 piece apart, measured the cut, sanded down the corners and VIOLA!!!!!4070940710407114071240713

FYI the C4 Centurion rails will not fit with a switch block.

Noveske will not sell just the rail. They have a 7.62 model with a switch block cut but not a 10in for 5.56, I knew Stubborn Mule was developing a switch block rail but I was tired of waiting.
