View Full Version : Tula .223
I'm looking for a less expensive round to use in 3-gun for the up close (0-100 yds.) stages. I need to know if the bullet in the Tula is bi-metal or copper. One of my matches doesn't allow any steel in the bullet for fear of damaging the steel targets.

The tula .223 I have is steel. Ive shot 500 rounds of it so far, had some ammo related hiccups maybe 1 out of 100 rounds. I wouldn't use in competition.

Thanks EC.
The Tula .223 is basically black box Wolf .223 in a generic box.
It is steel core, weak, and runs dirty. But it is the lowest price stuff out there.

Yep, its cheap alright. I paid $230 after shipping for 1000 rounds a few months ago. After shooting half of that, I can say I wont be buying anymore of it.
I just ordered and shot 100 rounds of the Hornady steel cased 55gr training ammo from Ammunition To Go. This uses a lacquered steel case they buy from Barnaul but it is loaded with Hornady powder and a Hornady FMJ bullet. The bullet will not stick to a magnet. I didn't do any accuracy testing but it cycled my AR pefectly and seems to shoot well. It seem to be very consistent in power and not nearly as dirty as the Wolf. IMHO, it's really good stuff. Ammo To Go has 1k rounds for $270 plus shipping. Might be what you're looking for.
Been lurking awhile and thought I'd share my experience with Tula. Shot 40 rounds without incident yesterday. 2-3 shots after, I experienced a FTE. Partially stuck case (?). Took all I had to yank the charging handle back to release the spend case. I then noticed how dirty the rifle was after shooting the Tula. Not certain if having a non chrome lined barrel played a part in this or not...thinking it may have. Fortunately, only purchased a couple hundred rounds. Will stick to brass stuff for now.
Aim Surplus had it for about $215.00/case recently. The first 150-200 rounds have all gone bang, no short-stroking or any other problems.
All rounds fired at close in targets so no accuracy report.

Cheaper Than Dirt now shows that price as well.....
