Hi Gents, over the weekend I received my Castle Rock Discreet
breakdown bag. I was looking for a small footprint, something that
doesn't scream weapon, could be used as a hideway mini-weapons cache,
weapons BOB or regular range bag.
I'm pretty sure I've found in this Castle Rock product.
At $115 its not a cheap bag, but I've seen more expensive. The Bag comes
with individually detachable backpack straps as well as a velcro/fabric
carry handle. Inside there is a partition that separates the upper from the
lower. There are pockets for 6 AR magazines, two large velcro pockets and
nylon tie down straps to secure the upper/lower receivers. The straps actually
use plastic pressure snaps that make securing and removing easy.
It turns out that the color I picked is a virtual dead ringer for foilage green.
They are available in a variety of colors, many more "urban discreet".
So here are some pics................

here with a carbine for scale

Lets see how much it can hold...
http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq127/vigilant2_2008/IMG_0229.jpg

Quite a bit!.... Still with room to spare............
http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq127/vigilant2_2008/IMG_0233.jpg

and empty......
http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq127/vigilant2_2008/IMG_0234.jpg

I was able to fit
Colt M4 carbine, 6 P-mags, 200 rnds .223 ammo, Glock G19wTlr-1, 100 rnds
9mm,4 G19 mags, surefire G2Z flashlight, K-BAR knife, pelican 12 CR123 battery pak, folding knife, weaponshield clp, lula loader, with room for more.
In ending I knew it was mission accomplished when my friend saw the bag
and said " There's no way you've got an M4 in that!".
If anyones looking for a discreet bag I definetely recommend this product.

ID or OD? either way, sounds like you could squeeze an assembled 10.5" SBR in there, no?

wow... that's a great price. i want.

If its 27.5 long it would follow that it can take a 20in upper at least ............. right?

I wonder why it says 18"

Very well made. The straps inside might even be overbuilt... they are burly. Obviously it would be ez to critique the thing so personally mission specific that it wouldn't be versatile enough to be marketable, so being reasonable the only thing things I would change would be to be able to adjust straps buckles on "both" sides so buckles could be placed not at bottom of bag (difficult to reach...very minor gripe) and change the interior color to something lighter in color as its difficult to see in there in low light. Otherwise the bag is outstanding! I've personally met the designer and owner of Castlerock Tactical and seems like a really good guy. Made in America too!

What I like about this bag is being able to take an assembled SBR and 18" SPR type upper at the same time. Now that would be cool.

As soon as the foliage is back in stock I am ordering one.

I still don't understand getting discreet cases in Mil/Tacticool colors. If the pink version of this bag would have been in stock that is what I would have gotten... Hmmm, fuchsia wood be nice too:p

I'm on the fence... Should I order a red or royal blue? Both would work well in fire/ems vehicles and factilities. Might be just a little loud for out and about, depending on the exact hue in sunlight.

Votes?

ST between the two I would vote royal blue. Even in TX we're covered up w/ damn LSU fans so BKB's purple choice would be popular.

Gotta agree it doesn't look bad, would blend in + no burnt orange to choose from.

I would go Royal Blue (I did;)) or Navy. The Royal Blue looks like many industrial bags and the Navy is non-tacticool and very understated. I tell people mine is a baby diaper changing station:p

These look great. They appear to be about the same size as the old Graco Pack 'N Play portable baby playpen we carried everywhere with us. You could tell people the original carry case broke and you bought a better made one.

how many people are actually carrying their ARs around with them concealed in a bag throughout the course of normal daily urban living?

add 8" to whatever barrel length you have plus muzzle device.. questionable whether you'll be able to squeeze it in..

I just carry mine around at port arms. With a fixed bayonet. I always have lots of extra space walking around down town. :sarcastic: I like the low profile bags like this for the urban camoflage it gives me while carrying it in and out of the truck. Any one who knows me well knows it aint a skate board or snow board.

I like my Sneaky bag (blue) the other is a BFG bag.

Sneaky Bags are out of production right now, hopefully they're back soon This bag looks like a good option. I'd rather not have to take my gun apart though.

I know that this is a necro'd response, but....

Military-color bags and military-surplus bags are popular. MysteryRanch makes just about every bag that they make in a military color, including their messenger bag (CB, FG) and at least one of their ski packs is available in Multicam. CamelBak used to offer (and probably still do) a pack for biking that was CB and digital desert.

IN ADDITION: If you own and already use military-colored packs for hunting, hiking, &c. (which is common), and if you would buy a guitar/keyboard case/racket/snowboard/skateboard bag in Multicam, MARPAT, whatever if it was an option, wouldn't it be more discreet to buy your discreet rifle rig in those same colors? That's not to say that colors like black would arouse suspicion, but if your normal colors are Coyote Brown, Foliage Green, and Multicam, I think a pink bag would make you stick out like a sore thumb (not necessarily in a "He has a gun" sort of way, so much as a "He's former military/law enforcement, rides a Montague bike, and hikes with a camo backpack... but he's using a pink bag for his unknown item!?").

I understand your thinking, but disagree. There are places for everything and there are places that the camo stuff is going to stick out more than pink or some other non tac/hunting color.

I was able to compare the Castlerock and Sneaky Bags a couple of years ago and liked both. The Castlerock is VERY well built and designed. I spent some time with the designer and he is a great guy and really went all out on the bag. The Sneaky bag was fine and liked the whole backpack style, but it was VERY minimalist and only gripe was lack of padding. I would like to have seen just a little padding and alot on the bottom so you could not worry about sitting it down hard or things banging the bag and dinging the rifle/optics.

I've been looking for a small, sturdy, soft case. I think this might be my birthday present.

Just ordered the med. in charcoal.

They have 10% off and free shipping right now.

Tried to order the 30" sneaky from One Source a few weeks ago, but they were all gone. I guess they're looking for a new manufacturer.

I ordered and just received the 31" one. It is really well built. I really like the internal pockets and the bright colors for the internal straps.

I am going to order 2 more.

Sorry for the post to a dead topics but the 5.11 COVRT M4 bag looks a lot like the Sneaky Bag, maybe a bit longer. The Caste Rock bag looks like a winner for me though. It's either that or the LaRue Covert Rifle bag and the Castle Rock is winning right now as it looks less like a gun case.

Are the zippers lockable on the bag?

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I thought I'd ask my question here instead of making a new thread.
