It's amazing how many people have the nicest duty/SHTF kit, but many don't have a good pair of eyes. What do you use for scanning or spotting?

I have my 12x50 Leica Trinovid BN on a Manfrotto freestanding monopod with a fold out foot so I can spot in the prone position too.

I find that the 12x magnification beats 20-30x spotting scopes for actually 'seeing' the field and what might be hidden in the underbrush and shadows. It's also really good for night viewing...

Leupold MK4 12-40x with the Tactical Milling Reticle.

I need more than a 12X max for spotting.

Nice setup. I need the tripod and mount for my Leica Binoculars.
I use a Leica Geovid 10X42 (with removeable custom Killflash ARDs).

I see that Leupold still puts the tripod mount on upside down. Do you use an "upside-down" adapter?

The tripod I have screws right into the bottom of the spotting scope.

Leupold makes the best spotting scopes out there due to the fact that they are extremely clear (maybe not Leica or Zeiss clear, but better than most people could even tell) and also use a mil-dot reticle. That makes applying corrections much easier for follow up shots.

Recently got my Leica Tripod Adapter.

Still on the lookout for a spotting scope to go with these binocs.

I'm going to admit that I use a pair of 10X Bushnell binocular to "spot" when I'm shooting at less than 75 yards or so. I can see .22 inch holes with them, so it's good enough. After that, I use a cheapie 30-60X spotting scope I got from Sportsman's Guide. It's a piece of crap, but I can see the holes at 100 yards easily.

Now that I'm going to be shooting at longer distances as often as I can, I'm going to need to upgrade, I think, but I will probably resist as long as I can.

Either that, or make friends with someone with a Leupold or better spotting scope. :D

For General Purpose scanning... I use Bino's... a pair of 8 x 32 Steiners

For Highpower... It's a Kowa 77mm TSN-1 with a fixed LER (Long Eye relief) 25 X

That's all I need.

I bought a cheap spotting scope a few months ago for use in sighting in and the damn thing already snapped off the tripod mount making it useless. I may just epoxy the damn thing to the tripod permanently since I need it so infrequently.

Not the latest or the greatest...but, I still use a Leupold 20x50 spotter. It is small, durable, light, and they can usually be found in the $200-250 price range.

Too funny, I've used multi thousand dollar European units and always come back to my 25x50 Leupold Gold Ring with Ewing Socom stand.:D

Depends -- I have three different spotting scopes, one for Service Rifle type stuff, one for tactical work, and one for stupid crazy range.

Really depends what your bag is, and pick the right one for you.

For binoculars, I prefer my Steiner 8x32, 10x50, and a pair of east german Zeiss 10x50s.

I just got a Bushnell Legend spotting scope kit, 20-60x80, but haven't used it much. Previously, a milsurp (M49?).

Isn't USO coming out with some spotters? I am in need of a spotter with a MOA reticle.

A really good spotting scope can cost as much as a rifle!

Being cheap, I use a Russion cheapo spotting scope that dials up to 50x. It's not good, but I can see .223 holes at 100 yard with no problem.

At 200, I can see the holes using the Shoot-N-See targets. Those targets turn yellow around the bullet hole. 200 is the max though.
