My handgun collection is small and are all being used as often as I can get to the range. I'll continue to purchase, sell, trade different guns in rotation. What I'm interested in is starting a collection of new, unfired safe queens. So, having to start somewhere, and on somewhat of a limited budget ($1500-$2000), where would you start? The budget can be for one handgun or multiple...but looking for suggestions on the first purchase. Being an HK fan, I'm thinking about a P7M8, but I may want to shoot it! :D This collection is only for handguns and not limited to just semi-auto. Help me start my collection!

I would start with a 3 1/2" barreled Model 27. The earlier the better. .357 Magnum is better than a 27 and a Registered Magnum is better than a .357 Magnum, from a collectability standpoint.

Still, this would be a great starting point: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=159780967

Here's an even better one, though I would change the stocks to the skinny service stocks like the previous: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=160017347

Smith & Wesson revolvers

WWII M1911A1's

Browning Hi-Power/FN P35's

If you like H&K, then go in that direction and start pick up the H&K's you don't need. A P7 is a hell of a place to start.

Go with an HK P30, best feeling 9mm out there in my opinion.
