Danger Close Consulting Surefire G2 Light Mount:

About a month ago on www.lightfighter.net Jon (aka M4Guru) announced his company Danger Close Consulting would be offering three different low-profile light mounts for the Surefire G2, Surefire 6P, or Surefire "E" series.

I have been running the Danger Close Surefire G2 mount for a few weeks, and I've been very impressed with the design and the quality. I have tried the light mount on several different rail systems. I had no issues fitting the light mount onto LaRue, Daniel Defense (Lite, RIS II, and Omega X), Vltor VIS, PRI, or KAC free float rails. Even though the specs and shapes of each of these rail systems are a little different, the Danger Close light mount fit each rail without issue, and kept the light very close to the rail.

Features:

- Solid one piece design
- Simple
- Rugged
- High quality
- Cost effective ($45)
- Light weight (Surefire G2 mount is 1.4 ounces)
- Very low profile, puts the light where it's easy to activate (even for guys with small hands)
- Can be mounted in several different postitions
- Fits a wide variety of different rail systems
- Solid nylon tipped set screw won't mar your rail system

The Danger Close Surefire G2 mount weighs 1.4 ounces. The G2 mount with Surefire G2 (with LED bezel, aluminum clicker tail cap, and two CR123 batteries) weighs only 6 ounces. As a frame of reference, I've always considered the Surefire x300 on a LaRue Tactical mount to be a lightweight weapon light. The x300 in LaRue mount weights 5.6 ounces.

Below are a series of pics showing the Danger Close G2 mount on several different rail systems. Note that the bezel of the Surefire G2 does not contact any of the rail systems.

Another shot of the Danger Close Surefire G2 mount on the Daniel Defense RIS II. This shot shows how close the light and mount sit to the rail without either the mount or light bezel touching the rail system.

A few different angles on a LaRue Tactical rail:

Note the hole or window in the mount that allows you to see which rail you are at:

Many rail systems have holes in the slots between the rails. The set screw on the Danger Close G2 mount is located high enough that the holes don't interfer with securing the light mount:

I am a Police Officer by trade, and one observation that I have made during my career is that cops are cheap. Most police departments don't have "deep pockets", and in a large majority of agencies the individual officer has to provide his own patrol rifle. Most LEO's probably already own a Surefire G2, 6P, or E2 series light. Even if the individual officer doesn't own one of these Surefire lights, he could get the light, the mount, and rail for under $100.

I am thinking that would also work quite well on an AK with an Ultimak. Hmm..... ;)

Thanks for the link, Jeff, and stay safe.

If you try it out, keep me posted as to if it works the the Ultimak or not.

I'm sending the mount off to a friend this week to see how well it interfaces with the MOE handguards.

Gents,

It works on the Ultimak lower rail, I have one on my AK74. I'm afraid I haven't gotten an Ultimak gas tube rail yet to check it out on but dimensionally there will be no conflict.

Where to pick up this mount? This will be a good way to pop my ar15 flashlight mount cherry lol

They are being made for the E series (E2E, E2D, etc), 6P, G2, and Scout lights.

Great review, Jeff, of what appears to be a very nice mount.

Have you tried it on a DD Omega? I have Omegas on both my BCM middy and 14.5 carbine, and both have the front handguard retainer in place. Will this mount slide onto either the top or side rail without having to dismantle the rail?

Thanks.

Ron,

I don't have any Omega's on hand. I was able to try the mount on an Omega X, but not the Omega.

Only thing I could suggest would be drop M4Guru a PM and see if he knowns or not.

If you manage to get the gas tube rail please let us know if it works in conjunction with an aimpoint h1/t1 combo. From looking at how Templar has his SLR-106 set up it seems like its going to be a tight fit.

I would also be interested to know if the nylon tip on the Danger Close's mount set screw holds up to the heat generated on the Kalashnikov gas tube.

Mark,

Currently it's not a QD swivel, but I had heard talk on a thread on LF.net that they were thinking about making it a QD swivel. Don't know what the status of that is ... Might want to drop M4Guru a line

One option of many: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=25012/Product/AR_15_ADD_ON_RAILS

Check Brownells, Mid-West Industries, and you may want to hit up Grant at www.gandrtactical to see what options he has avalible.

Magpul is suppose to be coming out with some rails soon. According to the poster I got at SHOT ... MOE Polymer rail sections from $5.95 to $8.95 depending on length. Magpul has a downloadable catalog on their website that shows their new products.

You can get a MOE handguard for $29.95 and the upcoming MOE rail sections will be less than $10 a piece.

How does the Danger Close mount compare to the non-QD VLTOR offset mount? It looks like they're about the same price, but secure in different ways.

FWIW I have both and for my needs I like the Danger Close because it tucks in tighter to the rail. JMO.

We tried the one at Grey Group (14.5 LMT with Omega 7") and it worked.

I do not know if all of the handguard retaining caps are the same from LMT to Colt to BCM to Noveske, FWIW.

In other news, they're lighter now! I got a big run back from the anodizer today and the new cuts helped a lot. It went from 1.4oz to 0.8oz and you can tell them apart from the 1" model.

I want one, but am unsure about the 9" Omega rail I mounted on a Noveske Light Reece Basic. I emailed Danger Close about the Omega rail fit this morning and this was his reply:

Joe,

Thanks for the interest! There are varying dimensions of handguard retaining cap so it is difficult to say for sure.

I can put the E-Series and G-Series on an Omega 7" on a stock LMT 14.5 upper if that helps. I'm afraid I don't have access to a BCM to try it on.
...

Edit - I posted this before seeing Jon's post above so it's kind of redundant. The retaining cap on the N4 Basic makes me think it's kind of iffy, but maybe someone will do the beta testing for me. :D

I got one of mine yesterday. Just for info. I have BCM 16" M4 uppers with DD Omega rails. I had to push it to the side a little to get the mount past the guard but it was no problem at all and fits great!!!! I would recommend this to everybody. Super lightweight. Grea retention of light and rail.:D

As GA Shooter said, it does indeed fit on the DD Omega ... with a little pressure to the side. I didn't realize how really stable the Omega is.

Here are a few shots of my BCM 14.5 with a G2 in the DCC mount. It is so close to the top rail that I had to remove the ladder on top.

This is an awesome mount and with the G2, I can't imagine a lighter set up.

Great job, Jon!

Oof, I really want the scout version, but I'd like to mount it on my top rail. Only problem is there's an FSB in the way, so I don't think I can slide it on unless I remove my aimpoint, buis, etc, and go down the entire length of the rail starting from the rear.

Too bad you can't install it directly in place, rather than sliding it over the rail starting from one end or the other.
