Am I nuts or is it normal to be able to feel the weight difference on my carbine when I add Magpul XT rail covers on a 12" rail?

yes, you're nuts. if you're not covering the rails, you're wearing gloves anyhow, so the difference would be nominal at best. if XTs are too heavy for ya, try Surefire ladders.
