Here is the foundation for my 5th AR, and my 2nd home build. Can't beat the quality of the Mega receivers. The matching upper is the cat's ass. Love the deep black finish...

Wanted to see how my 14.5" midlength setup would look, so I just temporarily installed a few parts for the photo...

This was my first experience with any CMMG, Inc. parts, and I must say that I am extremely impressed. The barrel is every bit as nice as my LMT, the finish is very even and dark, and the Phantom flash hider is indexed/pinned perfectly. The M4 feed ramps line up perfectly with the M4 extensions in the Mega upper receiver. Can't wait to finish and shoot her. This could be one of my nicest (and most expensive) AR15s.

I'll post finished pics soon!

Are you slapping a rail on the beast, or regular handguards?

sounds cool Dan! i have a cmmg middy barrel assembly. mated it with an LMT upper and had some issues with the M4 feed ramps. however a friend of mine was able to clean up the discrepancy and its been a great shooter since.

Stick, I wasn't thinking and ordered the CMMG barrel assembly complete with the pinned 5C1. :o I was planning on running a LaRue 9.0, but it looks like this middy will be getting an MI or Troy rail now. I forgot the FSB and hider need to come off for the LaRue...

No big deal, though. John just shipped me my second Mega lower this week. :D Now I have an excuse to build my 6.8SPC 18" middy with LaRue 12.0. :p

Very nice!

I just want to know where you got the Mega Upper/Lower? I've been looking for a set for a long time and everyone is out of the Lowers.

I bought one assembled Mega lower and one Mega upper from Rainier Arms. The second stripped Mega upper shown above was purchased from a private seller, but he got his from Rainier Arms as well. John at Rainier will take care of you. Call now, though, as he only gets in a small batch at a time from Mega. They sell fast!!

Just finished putting this together this weekend. Still have to add some little things, and I might be swapping out the rail panels, rear sight, foregrip, etc., but she's more or less complete. 14.5" mid-length CMMG barrel, Mega upper, Mega lower, CMT parts kit...

looks good dan! i have a cmmg middy barrel as well.

i just swapped some parts on my middy to get my 'mod fix'. these included a troy mid length 2 piece freefloat like you got. i was very pleased with how it fit and was very surprised how the triangular handguard cap fit in with the guards so nicely.

now i just gotta decide on an optic and get a flip up rear...

we need to do a chicago area shoot get together. several MFBA guys would be up for it!

Congratulations, I am planning on using CMMG for my next build as well... The setup with an ACOG is like icing on the cake. Let us know how it shoots. -RH

we need to do a chicago area shoot get together. several MFBA guys would be up for it!Actually, I have been looking for a larger outdoor range than the one I held the last shoot at back in 2000. I think I will put together another "Guns & Grill" event for spring of 2008. Cars, guns, and BBQ. Can't beat it. :D

Well, I have switched the VFG and BUIS yesterday since taking these pictures, but she's done otherwise. Took her for a test run yesterday, too, and she runs like a champ. The midlength recoil seems a little softer than I am used to with my carbines...

No hiccups?

That "discrepancy" that DamnYank was referring to was CMMG's feedramps. They simply cut slots for the bolt lugs through the ramps and didn't widen them at the top at all. I compared them to my WOA barrel and realized a nice file was in order.

DY's rounds would catch on the sharp ramps- every round feeding from the left side would slide up and the copper jacket would get severely scored until they eventually got deep enough they'd grab the bullet and jam.

I wouldn't use the word "discrepancy." They were outright bad cuts. I spent at least 2 hours with that file and then used a dowel wrapped in sandpaper to polish them...

are the stocks Foliage green or all OD? They aren't quite as green as the G2 but from what I usually see, FG is pretty gray.

I like the colors. Very nice.

I'm gonna say OD. I've got a few TD OD items and they look like that color in the pics...

I agree Foliage is more grayish.

No hiccups yet. Went through a few mags of M855 last week. Fired a few mags of Radway surplus through it early this morning. The CMMG M4 cuts line up nicely with the Mega M4 upper receiver ramps. So far, so good.

I installed my new BCG from Randall at AR15Barrels.com on Saturday. Chromed Young NM M16 carrier and CMT bolt and key. Using the previous NP3'd BCG in another build...

About the color: The Vltor stock is OD Green. The TD grip and TDI VFG were painted Alumahyde II OD Green to match. The Magpul ladders are OD Green. Surefire green is definitely "brighter".

Turbo, Very nice built! Is that a CMMG light weight profile 14.5 middy? Thanks

Turbo Supra
06-13-07, 09:20
That is the standard CMMG profile. I believe it is .625" under the handguards, but .75" from the FSB to muzzle. It feels surprisingly light.
