View Full Version : Accessing the flashlight from both sides

Used to shoot the Pat Rogers way. Put my Surefire at 9:00 and was a happy camper. For the past year, I've been shooting the Magpul way. With the recent trend towards switching shoulders, I put my light at 11:00 so I could reach it from both sides.

I think I'm going to go back to shooting the Pat Rogers way, but short of using an X200 or tape switch (which are both easy to bump on), I won't be able to access the light with my right hand.

Is it even worth thinking about or is one side good enough? Seems like most guns are set up in a manner that precludes the use of the light when switching shoulders.

I use push button lights in a Vtac or Vltor mount at 10:30.
For the distances at which the light is relevant I can easily use a shoulder switch, keeping my support thumb on the light.
If I have the time to do a full transition I can grip a little higher and go "over the top" with my right thumb to hit the light switch.

I really like the SF Scout lights and wish someone would make a mount that put the light in a similar position as the Vtac/Vltor.

I hate pressure switches, and since I have to use a peq15 with a pressure pad any additional pressure pads greatly increase the probability of a premature illumination or incorrect device activation.

F2S,

Check this mount out: http://www.dangercloseconsulting.com/low-pro-scout-mount.html

I have run a variety of combos including an X300 on the 12 oclock rail, scout on the 6 oclock, and lights on 3 and 9. Right now I am running an LDI OV-2 with dual tailcap, light at 10:30 and tape switch at 2:30. My PEQ-15a tape switch is on the 12 oclock and behind the laser so it is fairly protected. I will likely move the white light tape switch to a recessed railcover mount so it is more stable and less likely to ND/AD.

D'oh!
I was just looking at those the other night.
Thanks for the reminder.

F2S,

Gear Sector also has their scout mount coming along: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=48932

Being a scout owner myself, I'm glad we'll have some options soon!

Vinh, can you tell us more about the rest of the carbine setup?

The gun I shoot the most is a 6933 with MOE furniture and an MI FSB mount with X300 on it. I can activate the light from either side of the gun, regardless of which side it's mounted on, and regardless of whether I'm shooting righty or lefty.

For support-side transitions have you tried the technique where you keep your hands where they are normally (right on the grip, left on the forend) and simply move the gun across your body? Keeps all the controls the same.
