SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
An elderly Sacramento homeowner fired a warning shot early Tuesday after someone tried to break into his garage, police say.
Officers were called at about 5:15 a.m. after the shooting occurred near the intersection of Lissetta and 14th avenues.
The 85-year-old resident grabbed his historic handgun to frighten the would-be burglar, who then fled. The burglar was not hit.
Police said the resident will not face any charges for firing the weapon, but officers urged him to call 911 before taking the law into his own hands.
Or "Old gun saves old guy" :) I really like reading stories where firearms save the lives or well being of elderly people, women and children who typically have less physical strength to deal with assailants. I'm not usually a proponent of warning shots but it worked in this situation and hopefully the old timer is OK after the whole incident.
