When I saw ZDL's post about the new photoshop, It reminded me of a photoshop guide I used years ago to fiddle with how different things would look on my car, such as tint, different paint job, rims, headlights etc.

Alot of this is easily transferable over to the world of lead throwers, such as photoshopping different parts onto your rifle to see what it looks like, or just "painting" your rifle.
You'll see all of the individual tutorials on the left. Ones I would find useful for rifle/handguns would be the Color change, Coloring a white car, Two tone and then the Bodykit Bumpers/skirt to photoshop different stuff onto your gear.
