I am looking for a couple of S&W model 39-2 original magazines. I found one brand new for $40 plus shipping, seems a little high. I know that ProMag makes OEM replacements but, I would really like to have originals.

I might be able to order you some of these (will check).

I'm pretty sure that S&W discontinued the 39-2/439 magazines in the mid 90's and replaced it in the catalog with the 3904 magazine, which fits and functions just fine, but has that large baseplate.

I wouldn't trust anything Pro-mag makes.

You might want to check around www.smith-wessonforum.com. The Smith forum has 'want to buy' as well as 'for sale' sections.
I picked up a new S&W mag for my 52-2 from Brownells a while ago, not sure about 39's.

Good hunting!!

Think you are right.

The mag the OP wants is this one: https://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=12959&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=33304&training=

We can order them for you. Price is $32.

Yup, that's the 3904 magazine.

If you want one with a flat steel baseplate, i.e. a real 39-2/439 magazine, you're going to have have to hunt and peck, as they haven't been produced like that for 20 years.

The ones Grant linked will function fine, probably better than the old ones since they also changed follower designs, but you'll have that thicker baseplate.

I was able to purchase several from an individual on the S&W forum a couple of years ago.I think I paid $40 each for them but I didn't mind. They're out there but you have to look for them.Might be best to let Grant get them for you.
I have a 39-2 and a 539,the steel version. Dated, but still good pistols.I carried a 39-2 as a duty gun for several years in the early 70's.Never a problem of any kind. Most ergonomic pistol ever made,at least for me.

I found that out with their .22lr AR Mag. Waist of $30
