I'm looking to make a 3D computer model of the VTAC barricade today but I loaned out my copy of Kyle's book. Anyone happen to have the dimensions handy? A dimensioned picture, like maybe a scan from the book, would be the best thing.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

For those of you that are familiar with Sketchup I just uploaded two files to the warehouse, one with assembly instructions and dimensions and one completed barricade.

I'm doing a lot of my COF designs in Sketchup now and if anyone else is too this might help you.

For Rob if you still need it, and to others for general use.

This pic is from the LF website and is a copy of the exact page from Green Eyes and Black Rifles.

Fred, I have not seen him yet, but plan too within the week. I will keep you posted.

Kyle mentioned to me that they have a .pdf file with the particulars for the VTAC barricades. Melynda can send you a copy. I'm having a bunch made up too.

So how would you make the cuts on the plywood? I'm thinking a Roto-zip, however I'd have to check to see if it can handle 3/4" plywood. Seems like too many turns for a jigsaw, not to mention apparently you can make 2 barricades out of 1 sheet (so you wouldn't want to waste half the sheet.

A skill saw and jig saw is all that I use. Yes, if you take your time you can make two barricades from one sheet.

I have found that for the ports you can drill out all the corners with a 3/4" drill bit. This gives you the play and room need to manuever the jig saw blade.

Here's what I wound up with. The dimensions aren't exact but I tried to move the shapes around so that they were easily dimensioned off of known elements or gridlines.

Here is one my kids made me a couple of years ago: http://lightfighter.net/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3006044761/m/2181065283?r=2181065283#2181065283

My kids made a nice Father's Day gift--a VTAC inspired training barrier they put together with spare 3/4" plywood and 2x4's we had kicking around the yard. Max dimensions are 4' x 6'. The right side has steps at 2' & 4', while the left side steps are at 3' & 5'.

The three support legs are attached with carriage bolts & wing nuts, so they can be reversed and also easily dismantled for vehicle transport or storage.

Man those 2" wide cuts look tough to shoot through(if thats what they are designed for).

They are (and they are).

It just takes some practice and getting used to. The center rathole is actually the toughest for me.

Wow. I did something really similar a while back.

You can download the sketchup file (http://www.therearemanylikeit.com/barricade/barricade-1.0.zip).

I like Rob's better though.

Sweet, I've been looking for directions and should have searched here first.
I'm making one for our squad for our range days and I cant leave it at the range. I take it the frame unbolts from the legs so you can move it? I'm thinking either that or some type of hing system.
Any thoughts?

My son and I made two this past weekend. rob_s thanks for posting those directions as Green Eyes Black Rifles doesn't have the placement measurements for the cutouts.

I made the legs per the book but might make the other pair shortened down after watching the new VTAC videos.

They look great. You can shorten the legs on the front of the barricade. I think mine are about 12".

I was thinking that plus making both supports the same height. That way you could "flip" the barricade to shoot off hand. I'm watching the VTAC video #2 and it looks like thats what they did.

Anyone use stakes' in the front? I was looking around Lowes and the best thing I could find were stakes for re-bar.

Some of those 10 or 12" spikes they sell at Lowes is what I use on mine. They just look like a big ass nail. Smaller rebar (#4) would also work with no problems. When the wind blows I find you need to weight them down pretty good to keep them from blowing over, the stakes alone don't cut it.

Just an FYI...

MGM Targets sells metal barricade brackets ($61/pr delivered).

I found another solid way to mount one. This is my new pull up bar (cement is still wet hence the support 2x4s) and I figured it would be a nice mounting spot. I still need to cut that one leg shorter. Nice thing is I can flip it around to the wrong (left) side.
The fence is about 25 feet away and this is only for dry fire drills at home since we only have one open range a month.

I leave mine out in the open year round and even with a goodly amount of paint OSB will flake. The good fellow at HD mixed a paint for me that had primer mixed in. You could even get "fashion" colors. So far with this stuff on 3/4" pine it's been GtG for 6 months. The new plan now is to mount it on 2 wheels so I can move it on uneven ground. Thinking the big buggy wheels of a beach cooler.

All painted and I shortened the legs down a little bit. The only issue I see with the original design is the length of the tall support. You might be limited when shooting to the left as the support sticks out pretty far. I noticed in the VTAC videos both supports are short and the same size.
