I just got my first m4 and was wondering if sighted in at 25 yard where the point of impact would be a 50 and 100 yards?

A search revealed this. Funny how that works. ;)

There are a number of good online ballistics calculators such as this one:
http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj-5.0.cgi

In a perfect world and depending on ammo, sight height, etc., a 25 Yd sight in would put you about 3.6" high at 50 and 4.3" high at 100. Any small error you have at 25 will be multiplied at longer distances, so it's always better to sight in at a longer distance, if possible.

The only way to really know is to shoot at each of those distances.

These are general rules and each rifle and ammo configuratiuon will vary slightly.
A 25 yd zero will put you 4" high at 100 yds.
A 50 yd zero will put you 2" high at 100 yds, and back at zero at 200 yds

To zero at 25 yards and be hitting the X at 50 and 200 yards your bullets should be impacting 1 1/4" below your aiming point.

Zeroing at 25 yards makes for shorter walks down range to set up and retrieve targets, and once you're close move out to 50 yards to dial it in.

Another way to answer amost any zero question:
Run a search in the AR/M4 section for:
Santose

A number of threads relevant to zero and POI/POA will pop up.
