View Full Version : Colt Sporter
I have a Colt Sporter Light Weight (16" bbl) which was manufactured in 1994.
My question is what magazine(s) were shipped with the rifle when new ? I can't remember & I have a variety of Colt AR mag's.
Colt customer service couldn't answer this question.
Any idea ?
Thanks in advance
Could either be standard 20 rd. mags or, more likely, 10/9 round mags that were 20 rd mags with an aluminum rivet at the back of the mag that blocked more than 9 or 10 rounds from going down there.
Most of us just popped that aluminum rivet and motored on.

I built a nice sized stash of 20 rounders back then, bought em cheap and popped alot of rivets. I think they utilized an existing vent/drain hole. So once off who the hell knew? Ban schman.

I just found a receipt for the five 9 round Colt AR mag's.
Apparently I bought these after purchasing the rifle.
I have two twenty round (hold a full twenty rounds) Colt mag's one or both of which must have come with the rifle new.
Would it have come with one or two unblocked twenty rounders ?
Thank you.

Man, you're trying to make me remember 16 years ago.......
I want to say two, currently Colt LE Carbines (6920, 6520, 6940, 6721) come with two 20 rd. mags.
The ones I saw had a handicapped (blocked) 20 round mag.
Like Templar said, pop the rivet and you are good to go (for those of us in free States).

I'm amazed I still have receipts that old.
I agree it probably came with two.
Both twenty rounders came unblocked new.
I have a 6700CH I bought right before the '94 ban. It came with 2 unblocked 20's.
I was just looking through the original owners manual and it says five round capacity (blocked).
From manual page 22 :
"Note: The 223 Remington (5.56) caliber magazine is fitted with a spacer to limit its capacity to 5 rounds. The spacer is not removable because the space plate is rivited in place. (:p)".
I did just find a Colt mag which is blocked to hold only five rounds. Now I don't know if the rifle came with just the one blocked mag or also included the unblocked twenty round mag.

That's exactly what came with my 20" barrel AR15A2 Sporter when purchased new, back in 94.
