This time I need advice on an aimpoint. I am thinking of getting either the m2 or m3. Am I right in saying that the biggest difference is the size of ability to choose b/t 2moa and 4moa? Is it better to have 2moa or 4moa? I plan on using the aimpoint along with the aimpoint 3x magnifier. Will that have a bearing in which one I should use? Thanks

Many, including myself, prefer the 2 MOA. It's obviously a smaller diameter dot & better for longer shots as it doesn't cover as much of the target as the 4 MOA. If you're taking a shorter distance shot, just turn up the brightness on the 2 MOA for a larger appearing dot size. So, with the M3, you get the best of both worlds. The M2 is just as nice, as are all Aimpoints, but you're limited to the 4 MOA with the M2 IIRC. The 3x magnification has no bearing on the dot size. Personal preference is all.

The M3 is more pricey, but they can be found online for discounted prices if you just take the time to research. I got my M3 from Rainier Arms for $441. Most other places they are $500. However, if you're not gonna be deploying night vision, then don't waste your money on an M2 or M3. Get the ML2 or ML3. Not NV compatible=a lot lower list or sale price. HTH.

If you plan on using the 3x magnifier I would highly recommend the 2 moa dot. Keep in mind that the magnifier will be magnifying the dot size as well. I find the 2 moa dot looks much better then the 4 moa dot through the 3x.

Also, difference in battery life. Aimpoint list the M2 at 10,000 hrs & M3 at 50,000 hrs.

Additional info listed on their website: Submersible to 25 meters (M2) vs. 45 meters (M3).
M3 comes with rubber cover.

Unless you really NEED night vision capability, buy the ML3 and save some bucks. There are a couple of other threads regarding the 2 MOA vice 4 MOA dot question. Bottom line is to get the 2 MOA. You will love your Aimpoint and if you don't list it here and somebody will buy it pronto...

LaRue also has the CompM2 with mount for $490.00 ($496.70 2MOA with standard LT-150 mount shipped to NV...:D).

And if you get the NV capable, and since you'll be using it for years, you could always donate it to our troops in tehran in a care package.
