Are these excessively heavy? Are they bulky I've never held or handled one, but they're @ BCM for $179. Wondering if they are any good. Thanks.

they are very good. nice and light and sturdy. however, they will require you remove the FSB and replace the barrel nut with their proprietary nut which I believe requires their proprietary wrench.
that said, for a rail of this quality for $179, those are small issues...

They retain the same slim cross section of Omega rails but use the Lite Rail barrel nut. I do not find the 12.0 FSP to be any heavier than a 12.0 Lite Rail but it is listed on the DD sight as being a just under an ounce heavier. When you take into account, the weight of 2 rail mounted QD cups (Omega X has integrated QD cups), the Omega X is a touch lighter. At 179 that is a LOT of rail for the money, it is a shame people never warmed up to it's looks. Mine is waiting patiently for a DD pencil barrel upper.

I like the looks of the FSP and the FSPM quite a bit.

Indeed...utilitarian function before form goodness. They work great, and at $179 you can't go wrong.
Since this BCM price I have probably done about a dozen or so for other people and have 3 of these rails mounted my own rifles with 1 more ready to mount on another one of my rifles as soon as I get a chance. I also have a couple more in the box for future builds.
However I recently ordered the Troy 13" TRX Extreme Battlerail for my next upcoming build, which I am just waiting on a few more parts. So my other DD rails will have to wait a bit longer.
Great rail, can't beat the price. For a hard use working carbine/rifle in an up close situation, I really do prefer a pinned front sight base.
I love mine.

Were any modification to the rails required to fit the folding FSB?
These rails are awesome IMHO. I just payed $293.00 for my Omega X 9''. They are very slim. I will probably use these rails for just about every build in the future, unless of course the need for another rail is needed based on function.

did you need the DD nut wrench or were you able to make do with another wrench?
Just put one of these rails on my patrol rifle and love it. It didn't really seem to add that much weight to the rifle and the slim profile is nice.
How is the feel of the weight to something like the KAC RAS ?

No modifications were needed with the ARMS front folding sight. About an hour installation. Sight is sturdy as hell too. Thought it would have been somewhat loose, but not at all. So glad I went this route.
did you need the DD nut wrench or were you able to make do with another wrench?I did about 10 or so of the DD proprietary barrel nuts with a AR/M4/M16 armorers wrench using the castle nut portion of the wrench. A few rifles ago, I sheared off the pin when torquing a barrel nut. I got more uses out of it than I thought I would. Since then I have picked up a DD barrel nut wrench. I am doing a couple more swaps tomorrow or Thursday.
Anyway here is what I was using.

I liked that rail so much when I bought my DD that I bought another rail at full price to go onto my LMT. They are absolutly great!
They are very sleek, very well made, easy to install and I don't find them to be heavy at all.
